I happen to think that we should consider not only quality and price, but also where a bicycle is made and the way the men and women who build them are treated. Is that allowed or should I be censored?

^^^ "I happen to think that we"

Yeah, we picked that up. :)

A great topic!! One that really should be in the Politics section here. How about you start a thread there and I bet you can get a LOT of comments about that. I myself would be awaiting to do so myself! :)

Okay.

There is a whiff of change at Dahon, there's a new 'Neos 3' in the pipeline, powered by Sturmey Archer.

Diode100 01-06-13 01:33 PM

Shame it's not belt drive, or even fitted with the corrigated tube for the chain to run in, maybe you could mention it to them, especially if there is a whiff of change at Dahon.

Velorution have got a white carbon fibre Rizoma in the window, belt drive and beautiful, the only thing better is the one in black they have inside the shop.

Maybe when Dr Hon sends me the free air tickets for the holiday in Plovdiv, he'll throw in one of those. Meantime, I'm gonna have to go with the cheapskate Altura Arran.

Edit: "The Arclite [Vitesse] Rack, unfortunately, won’t fit the Commute Bag since the rear of the rack curves slightly up at the end and so doesn’t allow the bag to slide on to it."

Well, heck. How about a basket?

Cool piece of history, and the start of something great. That`s all (IMO).

Dahon California.

They are very cool. Anyone ridden one recently?

Someone was posting on here a few months back, he wanted a bike to keep on his yacht, bought a Jestream Delux and an early Dahon, but he never posted again after he got them. I thought he probably wanted the Dahon as a spare anchor, but i could be wrong. Nice looking bike in good condition, especially the stainless ones, but heavy, like the adorable looking RSW.

Diode100 lusting in the bike shop windows of London's West End like a horny man gazing at La Senza's latest collection and the prodigal daughter Snafu21 reappears from the Bermuda Triangle. It's like going back in a time machine lol!

Happy new year! :-)

But at what stage specifically does a bicycle become such, so as to receive the 46% tariff ? That would be a fully assembled bicycle, which is when? After wheels, etc are on? Or when is it just a frame? (I'm not as familiar with the harmonized schedule for EU)

I'm a bit late to the party, but still: the tariff is actually 48,5%. Specs are, 60% or more Chinese parts OR 25% or less of added value in assembly. Either one is sufficient for increased tariffs. I don't know what is used as a base value from which the 60% or 25% are calculated from.

Nokia started in tyres and then reinvented itself several times. Maybe its time for the Finnish to become the mecca of folding bike manufacturing? Nokia folding bikes perhaps? Not the IKEA one made for employees in China!

Mulleady: " If I go, will you turn up? You broke my heart more than once! :p"

Yeah, over lunch today an Attractive Companion has agreed to schlepp long, so my bicycling might be limited.

snafu21 01-07-13 10:24 AM

Where were we before the fight broke out? Ah yes:

Upgrading the Plovdivian Vitesse with luggage and what-not. I was having a great conversation with Badmother about handbags, but mine don't arrived yet, so here's how to fit Not-A-Dahon derailleur to a Vitesse. (Note: you need different bits for a Speed frame)

badmother 01-07-13 03:06 PM

Me, I get over this by not lubing the chain. The penalty is drive-train wear.

... and soon your bike sounds like a hedge full of sparrows.. :p (old Norwegian proverb)

This sounds good. We need pix and we need them now.

Finally got around to take some pix. Hope they are not too dark!

'Finally got around to take some pix. Hope they are not too dark!'

It looks pretty handy. I'm already regretting buying a ready-made bag. Do you have a rear rack upon which to clip it?

Accompanied by the creaking knees. :-)

Bag is ready made, just added the small straps.

Racks, got them in heaps. My problem is too many bikes (no self controll) and therefor too many racks. BUT not using this on a rack since it is where I keep my cell phone, money and stuff and I want to be able to reach it. Should work on a rack, but not sure how close to the ground I want it. Just finished installing the studed tyres on my sons bike so I`ll drag it out in the daylight and take some pix. His bike has got no rear rack and I think that if we put one it is going to be a "tall" one for touring. Trying to keep the bike light and we like front loading.

Yay! Looks great. Good find (the pattern). Same system really, just snap it onto whatever you ride. No expensive fasteners and adaptors. My first thought was "drawstring" when I started looking at it, so make sure you add that. I added a rolltop on our Brompton basket also (posted here somewhere) to avoid stuff "jumping out" when riding and when taking bag off the bike when loaded.

We want pix!

snafu21 01-08-13 11:45 AM

Dahon have ritzed up the graphics on the 2013 bikes, and are Twittering about them, annoyingly. Here's one:
