Yes, with a more upright position the rear suspension is more valuable than a front suspension.

I've found with the Birdy that front suspension for me is more about handling than comfort. That's what leaves me scratching my head with the new Origami bike.

interestingly, the problem wasn't ignored by bridgestone, in fact, they did produce something similar to the above in one iteration of the picnica (the DX i think). the twiddly knob releases the handlebars and pivots on the stem:


addendum:

doppelganger now makes a very nice folding handlebar; good for what i was thinking for the picnica, but also great for other apps.
