It used to be like that, but the bottom of page link is not there for me on Windows Right now.

Very Brave. Keep it up. The system has been an Anachronisim really. Hey, thats OK.
Thanks for working on it though.

Sounds like you have "Infinite Scroll" turned on, you can get rid of this in your settings and then choose something like 20 or 30 replies per page.

One note. The "Extra Page" problem remains with some of the longer threads that apparently have had some posts deleted.

The Wacky World of Craigslist and eBay Ads

One of the NEW issues is that because of the phantom page, one never gets the quick reply box on the last page.

This time the BACK button did actually work to recover the lost document. But, this is still so annoying. I'm still logged in.

So I guess there's only one I in BikeForums. Unfortunately, for me (and for everyone else) that's not you. How you read BF is of as little concern to me as you appear to have for the way others read it. I don't knowingly subscribe to anything. I basically follow one forum, because I have absolutely zero continuing interest in the others. I (like many others, if you take the time to read or search this thread) specifically used the start date of threads to decide whether I would open them or not, and maximize my positive experience of BF. I dont think that you should be telling others how to deal with it based on "it's not a problem for me."

The "Go to first new post" button doesn't work. Takes one to the first post. Did the new skin eradicate all of a reader's cookies from the old skin?
The font in the Quick Reply box for composing a message is tiny, and not the same font as used for the text of posts normally.

After several days of trying to get used to it, I find I am also still missing the thread start date feature. I don't subscribe to any particular forum or thread, I like to browse through whatever my area of interest is for the day and the start date helps manage my expectations of what to expect when I click on a thread.
Also- while the contrast has improved, the blue remains not my favorite. It's still uncomfortable for my 34-year-old perfect vision eyes.
But regardless, thanks for the continued hard work.

I don't use it often, so I hadn't noticed it was gone yet, but, when I want it, I'm glad it's there. I hope it comes back.

I'm still confused every time I go to my bookmarks bar looking for that familiar yellow jersey and can't find it. It'll take time to start looking for the blue bike in a dialog thingy instead.

I have to say I like the way it looks so much better when I use the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page to change the style.

Mentions aren't working properly on desktop. I don't know what the issue is.
If someone could take a look, I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to flag my own post for a mod.

@TimmyT,

Can you simply type the @ symbol plus the user name (copy/paste)? With the old version, I would have to click on the "text only" button when pasting a user name, otherwise it would past a link (which should have been equivalent to a mention, but wasn't).

As mentioned above, running my backup laptop, I don't get any bells or whistles.

Edit:

Now that was weird. It did recognize the @ symbol, put in a mention, but left a blank in the text.

Looks like a system wide problem where you can't change skin settings on ipad. We're working on fixing it.

The next issue is that the the static no-scroll header takes up 1/3 of the screen. Some of the quick buttons are nice, but I know where to look for them. No need to not just scroll those off the screen.

Tried it (Puppy/Chrome/Noscript Lite), and got text only. A big step back. Also going back to normal, I had to use the "reset" button as I couldn't find the skin choice option again.
There a system wide issues with tablets not offering a skin choice. We're working on it.

I haven't had any issues with BF taking up memory on my browsers. Try clearing your cache/cookies. I also haven't experienced the header taking up a third of the screen. Can you provide me with a screenshot?

Snags Attempting To Use Mobile Version

------

a) unable to post images. icons for URL and paperclip upload show fine but clicking on them does nothing.

b) unable to send PM's - system sends message that addressee does not exist.

c) forum jump function takes me out of mobile and into regular version.

d) notifications: when i click on this notice am taken to visitor messages.

e) followed procedure given to change mobile skin from hideous teal colour but it stops part way and does not permit me to get to choice.

I killed that stuff off in the last version and never lacked for people looking at that, same for quotes.

Let's get the posting and editing features up and running right first? Mentions etc. were the last things added into it anyway.

Thanks for the info. We've opened a ticket to try and get the old thread subscription operation back.

But seriously; there is no good reason not to show the thread origin date on each thread like the good old days. It seems a no brainer to put that in so folks know when they are scrolling past a zombie thread. Consider this two more votes for it:

Wow, that's pretty tone-deaf. Any heavy user can see the value in seeing the origin date of a thread without having to do extra clicks. It's not like including the origin date was adding extra lines to the screen; taking up extra real estate.

"Say, let's delete this quite useful feature which costs us nothing; our users will love it!" Who the hell thinks like that?
Just opened a ticket on getting the origin dates back.

As mentioned, Puppy Linux, Chrome, and Javascript turned off (otherwise BF freezes my computer, too many resources).

One thing, Google has traditionally been unable to parse/link photos to Bike Forums, presumably due to the non-standard format of the links. It makes searching for old photos harder, and perhaps decreases functionality of the website in general.
There are images. We had on issue with a user on IE not being able to see them. What browser are you on?

Ok,
Here is what BF looks like with JAVA turned off:

thirdscreen.jpg

As you can see, top 1/3 of screen is lost with the header.

Ok, I closed just about everything other than BikeForums, and was able to get it to work with the Java enabled.

Header now pops open and closed, rather than being static as above.

Memory usage jumped from about 22 MB for the BF page up to 250M for the BF page (editor) + about 25M additional for Chrome, and 50M for Shockwave plugin.

CPU Usage for turning on Java jumped from about 10% up to over 80%. Was higher, but settled down a bit

Memory was climbing up to over 280M for the one page before I opened the "reply".

Anyway, when running a lightweight computer, > 300M for one page is unacceptable.

Ok, back up to about 280 MB for BikeForums.

I'll park it on BF for a while and watch what happens. Perhaps venture to opening a second page

By contrast, GMAIL - Light is using about 17 MB.
