Hello,
Long time member that stopped coming here years ago. I want to stop the automatic subscription charges that I seem to be getting. I can't figure out where that option is. Thanks for the help.

As I understand it, you must do it from your PayPal account (search Help there), though there should be an option to do it on your account here.

Correct, you do it in your PayPal account.

When you go to paypal, click the gear icon in the top right, then select <payments> in the bar. Scroll down to <Automatic payments> and click that. If you use paypal for different things you might be surprised what's there.
Bike Forums shows up as MH Sub I, LLC. When you click on it to open the details, look near the bottom and click <stop paying with paypal>
This is when using a browser. It might be different with the phone app.

Premium membership states "Validity periods marked * indicate that purchasing this subscription is recurring, this means after the period is complete it will automatically be renewed".
I would pay for premium membership if it did not automatically renew, I have an aversion to auto-renew, and would pay a small surcharge for a one off payment for a fixed period. I am interested, does anyone else feel like this?

This is why all the streaming services offer a free period since they are counting on many who will neglect to cancel. Do many or any auto-renewals contact the subscriber letting them know the service is being extended? This would be nice but not a money making action.

I abhor auto-renewal for subscriptions myself, but when the savings makes the choice attractive I've made a practice of putting a marker in my calendar app ten days before a sub charges me again.

As I've mentioned to others, you should look at the entities that are already authorized to withdraw from your PayPal account. If you use PayPal often, you probably will be surprised that some you didn't think you authorized are already on it..

All you have to do is go to your PayPal account and de-authorize the ability of them to renew it. And you can probably do that very soon after paying for your subscription. Though I'd give it a few days before I doing that.

I agree with you that many people forget what they have signed up for and companies take money for years without people realising, which is why so many companies insist on it..........which is the reason I don't do it. Would support BF as it is a great forum, but not with auto-renew.
