fork taper fabrication question

hi, just found this forum and tried to search regarding the taper of a fork where it contacts the head tube

couldn't find any answers so maybe someone has an idea?

trying to figure out if there is a clean way to fab the end of the fork for the bottom crown race to go onto? or is it just usually a pipe that is tapered. some forks looks like 2 pieces welded together but if I do that, then I'm afraid the crown race won't sit on there cleanly and then will have issues with the bearings bouncing around making pits later on

any thoughts are appreciated

Rather vague question.. tapered where ?

new high end race kit, the bearing at the bottom of the steerer tube is bigger than the top.

1" threaded steerers were tapered inside the wall thickness increased to have more metal where it joined the fork crown.

Fork blades got made with a taper in the tube mill ..

Im guessing your crown race is too small for the fork you have.

try taking it to a bike shop where someone can see 1st hand what your problem is..

It's not clear what you're attempting (building a fork?), or the fork style you're working with (crowned vs. uni-crown). Typically the crown race seat is machined using a dedicated tool. This Park tool tutorial should give you some idea of what is necessary- Park Tool Co. » ParkTool Blog » Fork Crown Race Cutting and Facing

there is almost always a seat for the crown race to sit on, for example like this: LINK

You have shown a fork made with a separate crown. Fork crowns come with a shoulder that has to be machined to the proper size for the crown race to fit on.

Look on this page, they all have a place for a crown race seat to be machined: FORK CROWNS :: Nova Cycles Supply Inc.

The thing that may be confusing you is that the seat on the fork crown that the headset crown race mates to is often called a crown race. An example of that is found in my Paragon Machine link above. That part is welded to the steerer and mates with the headset part

This might help, it'll take you to building a fork and machining the crown race seat;
