Hi everyone. I have a problem with a steel lugged fork with a bent steerer and a potential solution. For the sake of curiosity I would like to try to replace the steerer; unbraze it and braze in a new one. I want to know if anyone has attempted this operation and if so what were the results; perhaps you could answer some of my questions.. such as.. while unbrazing the steerer would the rest of the crown come apart? Perhaps someone has a jig design they could share...

See THIS THREAD, particularly Dave Kirk's entry where he talks about all of the heat cycles the crown is subjected to when performing this operation.

unbrazing a steerer from a crown is a mighty task, you will need a lot of heat, i cant imagine anything but a hearth brazing setup would make it do-able. a better alternative is to cut and grind the steerer out of the crown.
i wouldnt use that re-brazed fork for anything other than practice brazing.
