Bikes: hans lutz, , puch mistral ultima,2x Austro Daimler Smoked chrome Ultima,Austro Daimler Mixte,Austro Daimler 531 mixte, flying arrow,F Moser,

its my friends old bike and he is a tightwad.
I am begging me to have my way with her..
it took a lot before he let me replace the freewheel and new chain
(it was the most worn chain I ever seen!)

its got 27" and to go to 700 I would want to make a new brake bridge,
the fork reach is fine. "oh but my 27" wheels are ok and then I would need to buy tires- what is my benefit?"
Braze on the DT shift bosses "there is nothing wrong with my shifters!"
replace the dropouts with good ones "oh..I will just weld them back-they will be fine"
blast and paint it "but I like the patina"

Its a nice bike under all that mess- I would love to do it up.

sweet old freewheel

paint me...paint me....

I think you can learn a lot by operating on an old frame like that, but not for a friend. If he is hesitant, pass it by. If you're sitting on time, I'd find an old one like that to call your own and hack at it. Try replacing a dropout, or move the brake bridge, or replace the top tube. It's not a bad way to learn something.

I know how to braze- I just never brazed on a bicycle before!

maybe this bike poses such an adventure to me that I really want to do it, I even offered him the 700 wheelset for free just so I can do the brake bridge mod.
I dont get many classic wrecks like this to work on.

e-RICHIE, can you contact me as I am too new to this forum and don't have enough points to send a pvt message.

since you spelled his handle right, he might PM you, but when he says email, he means an actual email. For example the email address listed in this post

Thanks Unterhausen. I had no idea that e-Richie is THE Richard Sachs. As it is I found what I needed from someone in Norway for a very good price. I appreciate your help, though.
