I should probably have placed my post on this forum, but I have a question regarding how/if I can safely remove brazed on cantilever brake bosses from a chrome-moly fork.

If you really must remove them cut them off as close as possible with a hacksaw and carefully clean the remaining up with files and emery cloth, no need to use any torch.

As someone in your other thread suggested consider using the bosses to mount a front rack; check out Old Man Mountain racks in the link below. These are bullet proof and made in the USA(Santa Barbara, Ca). The ones from nashbar(as suggested in your oriniginal thread) are nowhere near the quality or have close to the carrying capacity(nashbar max load 15lbs vs 40 or 50 on the OMM models).

From the pics I've seen it appears that this bike came with V-brakes, not canti's. Can't imagine swapping those out for discs, but it's your bike. Those type mounts are a steel stamping for the frame/fork attachment. The posts are furnace brazed to the stamping. It appeared the mounts are attached to the fork with TIG. I'll tell you'll play hell removing the post from the mount with heat without at least doing some cosmetic damage. If you intend to remove the posts but keep the mounts, cut off most of the post and file, or drill out the remainder.

I spoke with a frame builder that I recently met at NAHBS. He said he can remove either the post or the entire boss, he can even repaint it for me when he's done. I will decide later, but for now, this is my temporary fix:

Those missiles you screwed into your brake mounts are super awesome! I was wondering where you got them, or if you made them somehow. My bike has unsightly, unused brake mounts hanging around as well and a pair of those front and back would really finish off the look. Any info would be much appreciated.

It looks like a valve stem cap...they are made in any shape you can think of. My son likes the ones that look like skulls!

Yes those are shrader stem caps from Electra. They didn't fit onto the posts, so I machined them out on my drill press to get them to fit.
