Many years ago I was going to go to a frame building school in Oregon so I got this kit from the widow of a frame builder in New Jersey, thru "Cycles de Oro" It has all the lugs with "Cinelli SC made in Italy" marked later 1.375x 24,cast into the bottom bracket , fork-crown, legs, SLX tube-set all stays plus a couple extra, two sets of the long Campi drop-outs and 30+ braze-ons of every style I have ever seen. It has been stored wrapped and is in perfect codition for 15 + years. I don't remember what it cost then, but does it have value now? Thanks Jack

standard, its 30 + year old stuff, Cinelli was still active when these were cast. I don't know when they stopped using sand cast methods on lugs

are you sure it's sand cast? I don't remember the sand cast stuff having enough detail to have the name cast into it. I'm guessing it would go for more if you split it up and put it on ebay

Investment cast showed up sometime in the '70s, but there was still sand cast stock into the '80s. Not sure when people ran out of stock/stopped importing it though

Corrections I opened one end of the packing, It's Columbus SLX tubes, and the bottom bracket has cast into a sub surface area, "Cinelli SC Made in Italy"

That makes more sense; I'm pretty sure Neuron (Nivacrom) wasn't introduced until the early nineties, and was available in both standard and OS diameters.

Even in the SLX era, Columbus made the kit is 3 basic sizes, the difference that is important is the butt placements for the top and down tubes, beyond overall length, and at the extremes in size that big compromises come in what you want vs what you have.

I thought the different lengths were just for the down tube and seat stays. Top tubes were all 600mm and seat tubes were all 635mm.

"Composition A" for frame sizes up to 57cm, down tube = 600mm, seat stay = 500mm
"Composition B" for frame sizes 58cm to 61cm, down tube = 620mm, seat stay = 550mm
"Composition C" for frame sizes 62cm to 65cm, down tube = 635mm, seat stay = 580mm

Yes, it has value because a good builder can make you a damn nice frame out of all that stuff.

Even if it's SLX it can become a real good frame.

I tried that route a few years back a builders fee of $900, paint at $300 and I have a $200 counterfeit Cinneli frame. I have plenty of $200 frame-sets, My question was what is it worth to sell? For cash?

I'd think the market would be limited to someone wanting a custom SLX frame. Most framebuilders back in the day went to a mix of SL and SP for frame sizes bigger than 58cm because they considered SLX too whippy for larger frames.

To the right buyer, I'd guess the kit is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks, but the best way to find out is to put it on ebay with a set minimum bid that you'd accept. To get the highest price, you'll need good quality photos of all the parts and the packaging included in the listing. You'd also need to measure the length of the down tube so you can specify whether the kit is Compositoin A, B, or C.

With all of the air-hardening high strength OS steel tubes available today, the value of an SLX kit is going to be mostly nostalgia.

I see older framebuilding stuff go for disappointing prices. I tried to sell some dropouts, and no takers even at a bargain price. The new stuff is better and there is a lifetime supply of the older stuff for the people that just have to have it. Most of the nostalgia seems to surround Reynolds anyway.

I suspect the SLX era doesn't hold much nostalgia for anyone, particularly framebuilders. I'd have to see pictures of the other parts, they may actually have some value. You can get Columbus SL reissue and some fairly good facsimiles of the Cinelli lugs made from modern materials that far out-perform the original. There is a reason why Columbus chose to reissue SL and not other tube sets, they made some stuff that was a little silly. You never posted any pictures, so I'm just using my imagination here. I would put the tube set on ebay for $50, the lugs for $50, and the bb shell for $35. Just to see what would happen. If it's in good shape, you might get the right two bidders. If you have the tube box, that's probably going to make the tubes go for more, but I don't know.

Just a side note, Bikeforums doesn't allow sales by non-upgraded members in a thread like this. The fact that you haven't had anyone send you a private message begging you to sell this stuff to them is a pretty good indicator of the market for ageing frame parts
