Took my 60yr old bike to a shop in Mystic Ct. They had it a month. My wife won't tell me how much it cost. Any ideas? New wheels, new tires, new brakes, new brake pads, new derailleurs front and rear, new crankset, original pedals. I paid $35 new from KMart.

50 year old bicycle. I think I paid $30 to buy it new from Kmart in 1977. My daughter used it until getting her license at age 16, Then it languished in snow banks until it was unreckonable. I took it to a bike shop in Mystic. Ct. I had started a resto and ultimately turned it over to the shop for the rest of it. So now it's a brannew 50 year old bike. The shop had it for three weeks. When it was delivered back here I asked my wife and she replied it cost $65, I don't think I believe

Bike is back from the garage. It's clean enough that one can see it's a Roadmaster, nearly 50 years old. Whatever can be done to an old bike has been done. I think I paid $30 when bought new from KMart in 1987. Off the top of my head I've spent over 3K to restore it. I replaced the brakes and brake cables. I replaced the center sprocket. I lubed everything. I replaced front and rear derailleurs. When trying to replace the front derailleur cable O reapized I was in over my head.

I took enough apart to be able to see where the solder knot got stuck. And pulling it out I see where I might be able to make the new cable work. kevino

So, the tool arrived. I can't get it to work. It seems like I need the vise to steady the chain enough for the tool to attach and push the rod out. But you guys keep saying the vise is overkill and therefore unnecessary. Any suggestions? Thanks, kevino

I've had the vise for over 30 years. I used it to rebuild a dozen VWs, several Ford trucks, Three jeeps and one Porsche 914.

Okay, hard to believe I graduated in the upper 5% of my university. All this time I've been working with the bike upside down on the bench. It finally hit me and I got it in. Thanks but lets not talk about this ever again. kevino

I can't get the item seated in the frame. On either side the threaded part grinds into the axle cover. I'm ready to toss it and let the axle rest in the bottom of the two frame halves. Is something missing? Something must be since I can't get it to work. kevino

Not realjy. The nut and bold don't let the axle sit deeper in the slot on either side. I shot both sides for comparison.

OKAY what about this nut and bolt? I heard it fall on the ground while doing the tear-down. It seems like it should go near the axle but I dunno. , TIA, kevino
