Spinning question?

Why do I bounce in my saddle when I spin at a high cadence in a low gear?

Bikes: Road, touring and mountain

Shift up until you stop bouncing and concentrate on pulling up on the pedals more than pushing them down.

practice spinning on each foot(unclip the other foot) - kick across/push down/scrape back/pull up - now make it smooth, ideally a circlular motion rather than 4 separate motions.

do this for a couple of minutes on each leg at the beginning of a ride.

Then combine both legs and focus on smooth circular motion. Just be warned it's hard work and don't do the single leg thing for more than a couple of minutes - you may damage yourself otherwise.

Also - relax part of the bouncing thing is being stiff in the saddle.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

Bikes: '92 novara ponderosa, '74 schwinn le tour, Novara fusion, novara transfer, novara randonee(2), novara careema pro, novara bonita(2).

I find that pushing and pulling at the top an bottom of the stroke helps me spin faster. At the top push forward at the bottom let your heel drop and pull or scrap backward.
