Opinions on this setup

Hi,

I'm pretty new to this forum, but I'm currently looking at a 2004 (I believe) Cannondale R600. I don't know too much of the specs other than the ones listed here. I know the asking price is much too high especially after blue-booking it, but the bike has a fair number of upgrades as well.

What would you price this bike at, or how much would you be willing to shell out for it? And how does it look spec-wise?

R600 CANNONDALE ROAD BIKE

Thanks, much appreciated.

First question: does the bike fit you? If not, is it close enough that simple parts swaps will make it fit? Are you willing to pay more to make it fit you?

Bike fit makes the difference between a good ride and a bad one. If you're shopping for a used bike, finding one that fits (or can be made to fit) is many times better than a bunch of expensive parts.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the input. It does fit me, it's a 53cm and I'm 5'6" who normally rides 52-54cm bikes. So size-wise, it's a good one. I was more curious on the price in relation to the parts on the bike.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.

It's August and you have only 2 posts.

Is this for a college campus bike? If so, my advice is not to do it. If nothing else somebody is going to grab that Thompson seat post. For college campus use you need a semi-expendable beater bike.

Is the bike worth $800.00? I honestly don't know. Maybe. It's worth whatever the seller and a buyer can agree on.

It looks like a pretty cool bike to me and it has some pretty nice parts. I'd think that somebody who wanted a nice but out-of-the-box looking bike and didn't who want to pay new bike price might go the whole $800.

Bikes: 2011 Lynskey Sportive, 1988 Cannondale SM400

That bike retailed for 1100 in 2004. According to BBB, it is worth under $300 if like new and with all stock parts. The wheels may or may not be an upgrade to the stock Gipiemme, and the coda parts are cannondale's house brand stuff. I would offer him $400 if you really want the bike, but i wouldn't park it on a college campus.

Looking at the pictures, it's got a very long handlebar stem. Either it was set up for someone too tall for the frame or the rider had a very long torso.

"Frame size" is only the first step in fitting a bike to your body. If it fits you, great. Otherwise you should expect to spend time and money getting it to be right.

I agree with the Demon- make a lowball offer if you want and fit the bike and be prepared to walk away.
