I'm guessing the bikes are custom made for people with physical disabilities... aka wounded warriors. If that's the case the thieves will probably have trouble selling them anyway, especially if word gets around.

Might have hoped for music instruments -- a huge theft ring specializing in music instruments was just busted here in Texas where they'd been hitting trailers, trucks and vans near music venues all over the state. Bust snagged more than 100 suspects.

I saw them riding through the streets of Philly a few days ago. Yes. There were hand cycles/recumbents being ridden, but lots of regular bikes as well.


The odd thing is that I read a local story that described the missing items as repair stuff, not the actually bikes themselves. I found it odd that things like tools and such could amount to nearly $40K.


And they very well could have thought they were stealing band-related gear. It wouldn't be the first time a truck with band equipment went missing out of the Philly area. I remember seeing a TV new story within the last few years about it happening. This theft happened in a part of Delaware County that's not the most "refined," to put it politely.

I hope when the scum that stole those bikes are found, the judge throws the book at them with maximum jail time.

$40K of tools is not as much as you'd imagine it to be.

The VA will pay as much as $3,000 for a recumbent trike for a disabled veteran to use for rehabilitation. There's a couple examples mentioned on Bentrideronline. It wouldn't take too many hand trikes or foot trikes to rack up $40K in losses.

I hope to hell they find the lowlife who did this, thieves are scum.

Yep. I couldn't honestly tell you what my tools are valued at, but they'd likely be in the low thousands, and I'm nowhere near what a professional is. You start tossing in things like power tools, compressors and welders, precision tools, you can easily rack up that. Tool boxes alone can easily run into the thousands from a place like Lowes or Home Depot, and those aren't even "professional" grade.

My brother has one that was custom built for him (he was a professional mechanic for a good part of his life.)

You can stand on the shallow drawers (the ones that are only 2 inches tall) without fear of breaking them or the rollers they slide on. It's slightly nuts. Even the heaviest drawer (almost always the socket drawer) slides with the touch of a finger. Many people say that expensive tools are a waste of money, but that tool chest is absolute quality.

Victoria, BC – Police are recommending a charge of theft over $5000 after a rare bike was stolen, then recovered, in the 300-block of Catherine Street.

At 12:00 p.m. on August 11th, a plain clothes officer observed a man with what was believed to be a stolen bike. The officer approached the man and quickly determined that the man had stolen the bike moments before being stopped by the officer. Further investigation revealed that the value of the bike was approximately $20,000. Needless to say, the owner was very happy with the officer’s actions.
