Cargo Bikes: Go Ahead And Bring The Kitchen Sink
by DEENA PRICHEP

"December 7, 2009
Picture a vehicle that can carry around your kids and groceries efficiently, and doesn't burn any fossil fuels. But there's one drawback: You have to pedal it yourself.

Cargo bicycles are specially designed bikes that can haul several hundred pounds. Long popular in Europe, they're starting to make their way into the United States.

On a recent afternoon in Portland, Ore., Carie Weisenbach-Folz picked up her two kids, ages 5 and 2, from school. But instead of loading them into the usual minivan, she's using a cargo bicycle.

Between the handlebars and front wheel, there's a stylized wheelbarrow-type box, with a sturdy see-through cover. Bicycles like this can cost a lot — over $3,000....."

Overall I liked the article but I wish they had put a little more info in there about cargo bikes that cost less than the $3,000 to $5,000+ like Metrofiets. I have an $800 "cargo" bike and a $200 cargo trailer that could work with almost any bike. Talking exclusively about ultra-luxery cargo bikes makes cargo biking (even a little bit of the time) seem financially unfeasible to a lot of people.

I happen to be of a distant acquaintance to Allan Folz.
and met Jamie of MetroFiets, LLC

often times, The Masses respond to what is "hip", "Pop", etc...

once upon a time, i was disgusted with Yoga Journal for putting a celebrity on the cover.
then my yoga teacher said to me, "there's no such thing as bad yoga"

i agree, that Utility does not have to be Louis Vuitton

and as ridiculous as our culture is
most are herded along the reigns of media and fashion
