New Lock

I am looking at picking up a new lock. When I first got my new job I bought a fat heavy beast of a kryptonite to leave at work. Now I can bring my bike inside I want to get something smaller and (more so) lighter.

I dont carry a bag usually unless I have to and I dont have or really want a rack. I used to wrap it around my top tube but even with the cover it scratched the crap out of my paint and I done want to do this to my new one (yet anyway)

I like the idea of U locks but a lot of places I go its just not feasible (I have to lock to lightposts and trees) and Im still not sold on cables. Some places I go, for instance my doctors office, my bike isnt easily visible and I dont trust a quick snip of bolt cutters not to get through the cable.

There doesn't appear to be a product that has the lightness you want, with the security you want.

I suspect you will need to change an expectation or two.

The Litelok might be a suitable option for you. It is not a cable, nor is it a u lock, and it is stored on the frame itself.

pretty much. a thick chain lock is your only option at this point

the litelok may work. still not sure it is long enough to go around trees and lightposts but that will be a risk you have to take.

I have this lock, including the chain.

It's very practical. I can leave the chain at home and only have the very easy use of the 0-lock. I can use just the 0-lock with the chain wrapped around the frame, it stays locked in the 0-lock so it's not like the chain can be stolen, I have it wrapped around the underside of the saddle so my Brooks won't get stolen either. And I can wrap it around some tree or lightpole if I think that extra trouble is necessary.

These are good locks, both 0-lock and chain require an angle grinder to break and even with that tool it will take a while. You can choose between different plug in chain lengths up to 140 cm or a 180 cm cable, and they even have a saddle bag for the chain if you don't want to wrap it around the frame. Asus makes as comparable lock system, I assume it works exactly the same, because that's the best way.

A lot depends on your security needs.

There are locks such as the Abus Bordo Lite folding locks

Apparently another start-up with a folding lock, the Altor, light and "secure?"The "double" gives you matching key codes and locks together.
