I went out on STP Eve (Seattle to Portland bicycle ride) for 41 miles. The STP is a classic ride in the PNW and has been held annually since 1979 except for a couple of Covid-19 years. In its biggest years it would sell out and be limited to 10,000 riders. Now it’s hovering right around 6,000 riders. Most people ride the 206 mile route in 2 days and a few people do it in one day. Here’s a few pics from the starting point in Seattle at the University of Washington.

that looks like it could be fun. Any road bicycles attend & complete the long ride?

Oh yes, it is primarily a fully supported road bike event as in they have mid-point bag drop offs at several locations. You're on your own to figure out your sleeping accommodations though. I've only done it once, back in 2012 and I camped in a tent at the mid-point. I did it in two days riding about 100 miles the first day and 106 the second day.

19.9 for me this morning with views of the Thunderbirds practicing for an airshow tomorrow. I don't have a phone mount on the bike I was riding so I didn't know what my mileage was until I pulled into the driveway and grabbed my phone out of my jersey pocket. Thought about going back out around the block to get above 20 just for the sake of it but I had to get to work.

Did a few miles up in the mountains today. Not the time I was shooting for, I started to fall apart at the midpoint of the ride(nausea.) I'm still happy with myself, as I was ready to pull the plug early, but I felt compelled to grit it out. Average temp doesn't tell the whole story either. I started at 5am when it was in the 50's, it was in the 100's by the finish.

So I was a work-a-holic this week, only got in 24 miles, but I had planned for some miles today, then my son went an needed emergency surgery for an appendix yesterday, and as it has been raining every afternoon, I went and took care of his yard work, then did mine, all the while I was probably getting heat stroke. The humidity was off the chart, and heat was really bad. So after 5 hours in that loveliness, I took a cold shower and got some food, put my shorts on and rode about quarter mile and noped-out. Even the dog noped-out on his nightly walk and went and laid down under my wife's craft room desk while she was working on some stuff.
So 24.25 miles for the week.

It's day like today that I am glad I have an indoor bike setup. The heat index at my place was about 110F, but was a nice comfy 75 inside. Did 45 with 1400 ft of climbing.

23 miles at 95 degrees for me, and I did not find the heat to be a problem, but then I am a native Mississippian.

Had a female friend do the one day 200 miler. I have done it on single and tandem bikes - both the one day double and the single day centuries. Like a big party on wheels. You should do it.
Did an easy 20+ yesterday on the flats and a hard 21 today with 1200’ climb in 3 miles. The view from the top of the climb:

I deal with the heat pretty well, it's just that there's only so much I can take when riding extended climbs at 100ish degree temps.

Some actual climbing! Riding in Calgary and area is a LOT different from riding in Shanghai!

!5 flat Florida miles on my 3 speed cruiser. Just starting back into biking. Always a history of a simple bike. I feel that high from the exercise, along with that special something from biking.....I'm hooked.

I have only had my bike for a week. I did 20.2 miles yesterday and if my sit bones weren't screaming I could have done more. My goal is 100 miles a week. I did 88 miles the first week. I'm fighting high temps, humidity and traffic now. You bikers are impressive!

A nice 82 miles today on a sunny PNW day. It was nice that it wasn't too hot as much of the USA is suffering with some very hot weather.

Got in 30 miles and 1500ft today and 125 miles and 5400 ft of climbing so far for the week. The heat over the last 2 days has been brutal, so all miles indoors. It was triple digits today and the heat index was between 115 and 120. Has been a long time since we have had heat like this. Stay safe people, supposed to be like this on Saturday as well, so will be riding indoors again.
