Actually not that high, about 6300'...it's just that this was a pretty good snow year and that's on the north aspect of that ridge. One of the local passes(8700') just opened for the season, last week. There's likely to be snow in some spots all year, one of my favorite local MTB trails (9k+') probably won't be completely ridable til August.

I drilled it out of the start, managed to hit 1350 watts on the sprint for the first turn...i didn't really let off the gas at all on the first lap and was able to go solo about 1/2 through the first lap. I kept the pressure on the rest of the race and was able to finish in first with a fairly respectable gap.

Now, hopefully i can fit in another ride this week of decent length and still recover well enough for 70 miles of gravel racing on saturday.
congratulations!! 🥳 🍾

I managed to get in a 22-miler last night, it felt good. Like someone else said earlier, the wind seemed to self-adjust to be in my face most of the time. I started the ride going west, then south. At that time, it was a southwest wind. Then it was a southeast wind when I finished.

Rest day; I took the eMoped to work. Will go home for lunch and don't want to get sweaty for the afternoon.

Sooo tempting to drop everything and spend a whole summer there, if not for two things. Wife wouldn't understand and fact that I wouldn't survive any of these climbs...

Lol, you just gotta have the right gearing...but in all seriousness, even the 34/34 combo on my road bike requires a lot of wattage on this climb. I've got a 31/40 low gear on my gravel bike and that makes virtually all the climbs very manageable. The good news is, that not all the climbing is this extreme. I'd say the majority of the climbs are well under 8% grades, usually more like 6%.

I've lived here all of my life and I still never get tired of the mountains(other than snow sometimes.) It's hard to put words to the feeling, but I guess being in the mountains just puts me into my "happy" place.

Easy ride for this morning, 21 miles and 2200' of elevation gain. Only noteworthy accomplishment, is that I managed to set one of my lowest power numbers ever(out of 100 recorded runs) on an 800' climb. It was entirely deliberate and I should be feeling good for tomorrow.

102.5 miles. Other than some excessive flying protein being annoying, everything else was... excellent [Mr. Burns voice] .

Well unlike some people that had an "excellent" ride, mine was less than fun. My legs were having none of it today, too much work and not enough bike this week. The humidity was horrible, wind was strong, and I completely did not have enough air in my tires as it felt like I was riding in mud. I normally ride this joint at around 38 psi, when I got home, I checked the pressure and it was 30, I completely misread something this morning when I checked the pressure. I also forgot my mini pump at the house, so it just added to the misery. So I just did a single loop of 22 miles. Then I came home and mowed the yard before the rain moved in, then went inside and did an easy 26 miles on Rouvy, now I am eating some homemade curry vegi's.

Some pics of the trail I was on today.

I feel like I know who you're referring to... rsbob. it is rsbob isn't it?

Ive boogered the psi like that many times. It can make for an interesting ride. I cant imagine going two miles let alone 22 miles on it. Eek!

69 miles and 4900' of climbing on my XC MTB this morning...it was actually a gravel race, but I took the XC bike to have an excuse for not doing well. I was at the end of a couple of hard riding weeks and I originally didn't want to really do a racing effort. So the plan was take the MTB and just treat it like a supported ride. Well one thing led to another and before I knew it, I was fighting for position going into the first climb of the day.

Luckily for me, the bottom was a mix of big ruts, sand, and cobbles, and I passed a lot of the drop bars in the opening miles of that segment. I eventually got passed back by a lot of them once the climb smoothed out, but I still came out better than I entered. I still thought I didn't have a chance for a high O/A result, but I eventually pushed harder on each consecutive segment. Finally, I was riding as hard as I could on the final segment. I eventually finished 15th O/A in the men's category, out of 325+ participants...not exactly a weak field either. Some gravel guys, a certain Lachlan Morton, even Levi Leipheimer(he's still inanely fast.) The course terrain and timed segments certainly suited my strengths, but still an unexpectedly good result for me.

Got a little warm out there:

Two consecutive days of one hour sessions of Z2. Lots of thunder showers this weekend so headed indoors. Between downpours, power washed the back porch awning yesterday, which sucked. Today was the aggregate patios’ turn. It sucked less, but took a few hours. Built a movable platform for an extremely heavy plantar from this and that I had in the garage. The first attempt was a fail, but got it right the second time around.

Congrats, Sierra for losing control and doing so well on the race, even if it was unintended.

Call it 23 miles. Almost 90 deg F, but a lot of shade on the trails really helped.
