Running Nose Poll
As the election polls close in the USA, runny nose season begins in earnest! I'd like to ask how you riders handle the drip?I carry a handkerchief (snot rag) mostly because I can't do a good air shot (snot rocket) How do you all take care of this problem.
Is it really a problem if you ride solo where no one knows your name?
Thanks and Cheers!

My problem is usually the opposite -- painful congestion rather than dripping or running. I take way too much Sudafed but nothing else works. I also use Flonase, saline irrigation, generic Zyrtec, etc., as well as an asthma inhaler, but only real pseudoephedrine relieves the painful congestion.
I have to spit a lot from coughing during asthma attacks. I try to wait until I'm not around anyone. Pretty easy on my rural rides, and much of the MUP. I don't worry about it as much when riding in traffic. If it gets a driver's attention away from their phones that's usually a good thing.

I can not do the snot rocket either. On two of my bikes I keep a a small snot rag in a pouch on the top of my top tube by the head tube. On my old road bike I keep it in a small frame bag that straps in where the top tube meets the seat tube.
I also started wearing cheap cotton work gloves from the dollar store. I cut the fingers off for warm weather, and buy big stretchy ones to go over my cold weather gloves. This turns every glove into a full nose wiper.
I am sorry, canklecat, that you have the opposite problem. I suffer your symptoms when I don't ride, and that is one of the motivations for me to bike commute to work.

Since I mostly ride alone I can fire a snot rocket like it came out of a launch tube. Yes I do look around so I don't nail anyone else.

I bring a pocket size kleenex packet with me. Sure, i could do a snot rocket...but if i can have a tissue, thats my first choice.
When i was driving home the other day down the road with the MUP along side it, i saw a cyclist do a huge snot rocket...I'd hate to accidently ride over that lol, but i get it...

Tissues stuffed into pocket before riding, alternate between nose-wiper, uh, I mean glove, and tissues.
A couple of years ago I almost tore my nose to shreds when I went to wipe my nose with my gloves on. I hadn't notice when I bought them that they had tiny rubber squeegees sewn into the sides of the pointer fingers. I'd bought them in a ski shop and the squeegees were most likely for wiping goggles. OUCH!!!! Now when I buy a pair of cycling gloves I always give them the (clean) nose-wipe test.

I don't have a snot problem any more, since I gave up overly processed foods, dairy, flours, white sugar, and such. No more hayfever in the springtime, either. Come to think of it, I can't even remember the last time I had a cold.

I get really tired of having a runny nose until April. It usually isn't too bad for me, just really tiresome. I know someone that wears a handkerchief on his wrist, but I think that's for sweat.
I had a bad cold when I rode a long ride this year. The snot was so bad I finally started wearing a knee warmer on my wrist. It barely worked. That was probably a ride I shouldn't have gone on though, it was so warm at 4 in the morning I was soaked in sweat. Really miserable.

Snot rockets and the back of the glove thumb, designed specifically for wiping on most athletic gloves. Wash the gloves weekly...um, if I remember, which I usually do.

I wash my stuff after every ride (and air dry it all to minimize wear). Wipe my handlebars off frequently with a wet towel, and let dry.
*Philly has a Naked Bike Ride. I don't know if I've ever heard of a bicycling concept that appeals less to me. Uncomfortable, and there'd be no spandex to wipe my hand on. Yuck!

I have this problem regardless of temperature. After about 50 miles or 4 hours it starts to develop. Sometimes I have a paper towel or bandana on hand, but if I don't I look for nearest big leaf and blow my nose on that, and then wipe my hands off with another leaf.

Bikes: Listed in my signature.
Soft paper towel (Bounty) stowed in jersey pocket. Fresh one for every ride.
Blowing loogies or rockets (air hankies) seems a bit uncivilized, no matter what you call it.
