Thanks, this thread needed a post from a Texas Bicyclist to set the record straight about Texas-size bragging about bicycling possessions and brand name preferences.

pretty fixies, which I don't normally like - or at least don't have a use for in my hills.

Just finished 107 mi for the week. Going to my daughter's wrestling tournament this weekend, beginning later today...

Fred was here - these same not-hammered Honjos kept my International clean for 50 messy miles this week.

real Texans actually get along - they know the only thing worth fighting over is water

Bandera! You don't like the hammered fenders? But, they're so beautiful! I love the way they catch and reflect the light as you ride. They're also functional.

Better yet if it cost $600+ and came with an autographed card of thanks from the boutique's owner/craftsman.

Not my style, but as always suit yourself.
Never mention them if installed on your Super Course, proper restrained British understatement and all.

Smitty's market.
Bring your knife. They have a pullpit on the wall with a butcher knife on a chain. If you didn't bring your knife, you have to stand there to cut your meat, and everyone knows you're not from here.

oh, and a good Fred has a knife in every bike bag and every fishing bag

Well, if it makes you feel any better, tomorrow I'm driving all the way to the coast and if things work out I'm coming back with a 1983 Specialized Expedition, which will be my next project to work on. I've pretty much decided I won't be putting fenders on it.

But . . . they are staying on the Super Course, British reserve be damned!

Today's bike ads rarely show a rider on the bike. Was it ads like this from the 50's that promoted and taught boys and girls it's ok to be a fred?:

I will say however that people dressed up a lot better back then when going out in public. They dressed up to sport games, etc whenever going out in public

Nope, no wine in supermarkets here either, as you have in Phoenix, only beer. We have to go to a real liquor store to get wine and liquor.
