Matching cassette to Small front Ring

Possibly a dumb question. Currently I have a 32/32 set up on my bike possibly going to switch to 105 or Ultergra in a 50/34 set up...I do use my hamster gear often and don't want to lose it. So my question is if all things are equal and I change the front to a 34 and the rear cassette to a 34 would that make it so I still have that easy gear the hilly terrain I have to deal with (often)?

I would first test whether 34x32 is low enough. Might be you won't need to make any further changes.

I would be more concerned with the big ring than the small one, since, I presume, you are going from a 48/32 set of chainrings up to a 50/34. From your earlier post, you indicated you wanted to use the Sirrus as a gravel adventure bike, and the big gear of 50 - 11 is impossibly huge for gravel.

yeah I was thinking that too, so thanks for the input..I don't use the 48 often, I usually use it on downhills if I want to go faster or keep cadence. But honestly I get going to damn fast I back off usually. So I mainly use the 32 around town and off road. And yes you are correct I do a mixed bag of riding. Just stuck on matching the 105, but I think it's probably not the best idea given the realities.

Agree, not the best idea. In fact, you might want to consider going to a smaller big chainring.

Answering your initial question.

32/32 is identical to 34/34..

As Maelochs suggests, try the 34/32 before buying the new cassette. If you have enough adjustment with the chain,just make sure you have one extra double-link for the possible future cassette change.

Not all rear derailleurs will play nice with that large of a cassette, but you could look at your current derailleur setup to see if you could get an additional 1/4" to 1/2" space under it (adjusting the B-Screw).

OP can go with a SRAM 11-36 cassette if needed.

I'm running 11-36 rear with 50-34 front and it shifts fine with Shimano GS derailleur.
