Get the seat right position right so you can dial it up to 400 watts. Who cares about the rest !

Really though I think what most people are saying is that all this BS about correct angle, elbow degree, seat position, yada yada yada is all an initial setup. As everybody has a different physical structure, everything must be tweaked to get the bike set up for YOU which in most cases will make it 'WRONG' according to some chart.

I am a big guy (200lbs) and I like my bikes with a little more of a upright seating position, elbows just slightly bent and the seat a little lower than typical. I have no issues keeping up a 20-25 MPH pace in an a 1.5 hour group ride or a 80 mile 4-5 hour tour by myself. I have never done a century but I don't think I would have a problem.

*Cough, choke* Must be the patented "bike forum" average speed measurement. I mean, at 80 miles you're up there with the hour record guys for your average speed.

@corrado33, "80 mile 4-5 hour" = 16-20 mph.

I always measure from the bunghole.

Cant fix stupid

and?? 20 mph average moving speed in a group is not that fast, especially when we will stop every 20 min to let the rest of the group rejoin at major junctions. . I know lots of people who can average 20 MPH in a century but I doubt I will ever be one of them. My solo rides are more usually around 16 -18

I thought I would edit my post to add this. It is one of the 'b' riders in my area. I will join them on their recovery rides sometimes.
https://www.strava.com/activities/1026597324, I guess he should be world champion.

During the UCI record for the hour the average speed was over 30MPH .
