I'm more concerned with what kind of bacon that was that got saved. Smoked? With Maple? Crispy? Or just plain vanilla?
Maybe this thread should be moved to the nutrition forum.

I'm not judging because I've been there myself. Except that I had to call the Good Wife(tm). Cool that AAA came to your aid!

Geico rules. I had a GSXR 750 stolen right out of my garage. I had a bunch of money in it like a full titanium exhaust, Bremo brakes, Ohlins suspension, ect (thankfully I had receipts), and they gave me more than what I would have been able to sell the bike for.

I was the first (and snarky) reply.
It was asked as a question as to why go out on such a long ride and not bring the means of basic repair ?. That's a fair question. Bikes are not cars and while bike mechanicals are rare, flats are not, usually.
I'm still curious as to how somebody sets out for 40 miles with no repair kit ?. That's never been explained and maybe doesn't need to be. And while I'm glad to hear that the new AAA rescue a cyclist in distress concept works, I know it's not something I would even remember, even if I were a AAA member (I just dropped them), partly as it's been ingrained into me as the culture of cycling that you carry along enough stuff to fix minor emergencies. Been that way for all the 28 years I've been cycling.
Thus my original question remains, why would a person not take a repair kit ?.

I take exception to the phrase "plain" vanilla. It is technically incorrect as vanilla is a flavor. The phrase refers to ice flavors and "plain" ice cream would be unflavored. But due to systemic, institutional racist norms, the "white" flavor of ice cream became the "plain" or normative standard while ice creams of other, darker complexions , brown chocolates, red cherries and strawberries, butterscotches and others became marginalized and considered "exotic".
Bravo!

My guess would be they would send a "support" vehicle and not a wrecker-- the same guy that comes for dead battery or the like. Here in SoCal, it's Ford pickups and Toyota Prius-- mostly Prius. I don't think any of us would have difficultly fitting our bikes in the back of a Prius.
I keep my membership current because you have to have a membership to have their auto insurance, which I do. They're not the cheapest, but they are very, very, very good. I've had 3 vehicles totaled out from under me while covered by AAA insurance, and every claim went through absolutely trouble-free.

I dropped my membership this year as it's basically duplicated by my GEICO insurance. As well I'm not getting towed to the AAA guys shop, or somewhere of my choosing for a lot of money.
As well, the NYC chapter is very, very pro automobile (well, no surprise) to what I feel is the detriment of other forms of transportation. They are constantly complaining and lobbying against the MTA tolls on bridges and tunnels and the money going to mass transit. I disagree with them philosophically about this and just decided I could no longer support them using my membership fees for this purpose.

I guess I'll start carrying my CAA card when I'm on the bike. Wondering, my CAA plan allows me to get, for free, $10 worth of gas if I run dry (can be used once annually). I wonder if they'll bring me Gatorade if I bunk while riding lol
