Also good for surveyors, fly fisherpersons, etc.
I do not need a cycling vest with a backpack.

I can assure everyone that if riding a long ride in a cotton t-shirt and tennis shoes on a mountain bike is fun then it is even more fun to do it in comfortable cycling clothes on a road bike.

You can trust me on this.

Well then,
All i can say is
You haven't been lightweight, on an all day forest service gravel ride, out in the boonies, self supported.

Or maybe you have. More than 2 ways to skin a cat.

The Thread title is : Ditch the Bag. I have, and again = it's the easiest way for me given a dozen active roadies.

Umm, maybe that pump is why Dombrowski never usurped Froome as leader of Team Sky

Ditch the bag I dont think so. I have my trunk pack with me on both my bike and trike. It is pretty much a mini bike shop. Being behind me there is little aero drag what so ever, so why not.

I cant count the number of times that I have stopped to help riders that ride without anything. I guess their strategy is that someone like me will come along and help them.

Mickie Mouse is good, but if you can find a butterfly or princess bell it's better. It compliments the roadie style in my humble opinion.

This style of bag hearkens back to the type of sachel used up until the 1950's, when "racing" saddle bags were thin and held very few, small items. A waist strap wouldn't hurt, though.
On my C&V bike, I carry a cotton "shopping" bag by putting the handles over my neck and hanging it under my shirt.

Ah, yes. I quite agree, but when all is done and accounted-for, I find nothing so satisfying as a good, robust yellow "smiley face".

I use something like that but larger for heading into the mountains on my road bike and for commuting.

I flip it to my backside and secure with a hip buckle.

It rides low on the hips, which keeps it aero and center of gravity lower than a Camelbak or backpack.

Bikes: A few...

ALL of my road bikes have a seat bag. The Miyata 710's is the smallest, but still enough to hold two tubes, patch kit and tire levers.

The Fuji and Univegas that I use for commuting all have old-school Cannondale 'Toot' seat bags that hold more tools and other 'stuff', like wallet, cell phone, keys, handi-wipes... I don't wear jerseys, so no pockets for that stuff...

the more times I see discussions of this, the more convinced I am that the veluminati guys made this rule so they could laugh at people that fill their pockets with junk. I am happy to have empty jersey pockets.

I've hauled long lumber on my Cruiser SS before (although it was years ago) tied/wrapped tightly and hauled for 3-4 miles home. I'm more of a randomer guy.
