Bike hats, feedback

Hey all,

Im contemplating producing a series bike hats (with lid). I want them to be functional, absorbent, comfy, but IM not trying to make hardcore ultimate pro riding hats. They will look cool.

What materials do you all like for your bike hats?

How much $$$ are you used to pay for one?

Thank you!

I don't like the traditional cheap ones with the lumpy elastic at the back.

Wear Giro caps made of synthetic, or wool.

I'd pay $25 if I liked it, or $35 for wool.

If it's just for looks then less but probably wouldn't bother.

Has to fit comfortably under a helmet.
Has to absorb sweat but not overheat the head.
Must have a high UV rating.

Oh, and free seeing people keeping giving me them. You might want to market these to businesses/charities/etc rather than individual riders.

That's a nice one. I have a couple of those. They gave them out for free at the ATOC. Just don't put them in the dryer; the inside of the brim is plastic and deforms in heat.

I might also be tempted to pay $35 for a wool one, but I have a 7 3/4" hat size, so would require a little larger cut -- also think a little larger profile would be nice for a casual wear cap - not full on baseball cap size, but just a bit blousier than a standard snug fitting cycling cap

I'm actually looking for a wicking skull cap like a Halo but with a visor like a cycling cap.

Thanks all. Besides good quality and functionality, style wise, do you guys prefer pro biking themes/colors? I wanna do hip hats that look cool. Thoughts?

I pay less than $2 apiece for cotton caps, buy them from Nashbar's clearances (sometimes 4 for $7).
Currently have 4 in rotation. Washed after each ride, hang dried.
The looks and colors mean nothing to me, I'm not a model, I bike to bike and don't give a **** how I look in the process.

Wear them exclusively without a helmet as I use helmet only for mountainbiking.
Had a coolmax one, made by Headsweats, it lasted about 2 seasons (less than 6k road miles) and started falling apart. Cost me $15, was not worth it.

Make any fancy "bike hat (with lid)" as you call them, I won't buy any of yours. $2 is my top price I'd be willing to pay.

I find them extremely useful but I really don't care what they look like. I get them for free with my team kit and I usually cut the top off most of them.

I'm afraid the most chi-chi bike hats have already been developed.

I don't like to wear stuff with cycling brands if I don't ride that brand. In one of the links in this thread I like the hat but it said Trek and I don't ride a Trek. I don't mind if it's none cycling brands, I'd wear something that had like an LG logo even though I don't own and LG electronics.

Bikes: A bunch of old steel bikes

I used to get them free from bike shops as a promotion, mostly cotton. I like a nice wool one (muted design) and would be willing to pay 10% above price of production, well maybe 15%.

I have a couple Walz Caps. They are a little pricey, but they are American made. Plus you do a little customization on some.

Don't you mean "cycling caps"? I own one, and just ordered another. Wonderful headwear, and a true way to express your love for cycling! There are two designs. This one.

And then this one.

The latter being my favorite.
You can find patterns for both online.

Not sure about the UV rating but a cotton bandana works for the first two.
