Why do manufacturers advertise stuff that doesn't exist? (Alexrims)

I'm looking for both of these rims, though at this point I'll take either:
CX35 | Alexrims
R600 | Alexrims

After a couple days off searching high and low, neither one seems to be sold...anywhere. As far as I'm aware (or have been told), these do not exist in the QBP catalogue. I have searched internationally and have found nothing, either. Even attempting to contact Alexrims has yielded no response.

This is not the first example/brand of this issue I've run into: advertised items that aren't actually distributed. What gives? Maybe these are advertised strictly as an OEM for B2B (although Alexrims has historically sold individual rims and not just OEM'd). Or possibly Alexrims isn't keeping afloat (the AClass brand seems to have closed shop) and not producing everything. Frustrating to say the least.

I've noticed the same with some Weinmann rims I wanted to try. Perhaps the website lists all if the extrusions/BSDs/drillings they could do or have done, but not all of it is being produced at the same time. Or some of it is OEM-only, and they don't want to bother selling every model to us little guys?

Maybe they just haven't updated their website.

Hahaha, Alex's website claims in "Products" to have 5 fatbike rims, 4 FR/DH/Enduro rims, 34 MTB/Trekking rims, 38 Road rims, and some others. I call BS, no way. Mavic claims 11 Road, 15 MTB. Mavic is a real company, makes real stuff, been around since the 30's.

6th hit on DuckDuckGo:

https://www.modernbike.com/alex-rims

Granted the rims you want aren't listed...but I'd ask MB about getting them, since they know how to get at least some of their catalog.

Here's an Argentinian website that claims to have the CX35, but the price isn't appealling. (Unless there's a conversion factor that I'm missing. )

Good find. If it's Argentinian pricing, the conversion rate works out to $69.56usd/rim, which seems right. I sent them a message on FB. Their site doesn't show/allow international delivery.

I saw the CX35 a couple days ago on a Japanese Amazon via private seller, but was unavailable (if it ever was). I'm not even sure how reasonable international delivery costs would be on some hoops.

Thanks, I sent them a message. Also sent NiagraCycle a message since they have an extensive inventory listing too, but I think their site just reciprocates QBP.

Definitely possible, though if it's an older model there would at least be records of it.

Ah, that makes more sense. I've paid more than that for rims!

We do need to keep in mind that in order to be profitable, a rim manufacturer needs to make a decent-sized batch of rims each time they run the machinery, and if a particular rim doesn't sell, they've lost money. Some of the smaller rim brands are more transparent about the minimum orders that need to take place to make a rim, and I think even among bigger brands, there is more time spent between production runs than people realize.

The more I think about it, Alex and Weinmann's websites probably function more as a business card, than a listing of everything that's currently in production. If they're contacted by an OEM or aftermarket seller that wants a particular thing, they'll make it.

Another thought: have you considered the H Plus Son SL42 instead of the R600? They are almost identical in specs, and the former is readily available.

The false advertising... story of my life.

Automotive probably sets the bar from my experiences.

Yeah, it has been my experience that bike part manufacturers arent great in the advertising department. Microshift is another awful one for whats in their catalog compared to on shop floors

I built a set with them last year. I'm not a huge fan of the anodized brake surface that wears off. Mostly, I'm always interested in building/trying new rims. If I don't use them, I sell them.

Ya, even some of Shimano's non-catalog items are hard to find. Finding info on all of Shimano's cable kits are like pulling teeth.
