Alaska Day Trips?
I'm going to Alaska for the first time in a couple of wks, Fairbanks, Denali & Sitka. Are roads there bikeable, are bike rentals possible, any suggestions re: nice little day trips? I'm sure I can find out once I'm there but wondered if yall might have some info/suggestions.
Thanks!

I'm not sure about Fairbanks but here in Anchorage we have paved city trails that go everywhere through the city and along the coast. Biking is very big Alaska and excellent in the summers since we get almost constant lighting. From where you are going I'd definately rent a bike and ride the Denali National Park region. Enjoy your trip!!

FWIW, from what people who have lived in Alaska tell me, paved roads are almost unknown from Fairbanks northward. As far as Denali is concerned, they severely limit the number of people allowed in the park at any time, and do not allow cars. I would assume that bikes are similarily banned, as this is a wildlife refuge, and the tundra ecosystem is quite fragile. Bikes riding over such thin soil would certainly ruin it, and I'm nearly positive that bikes are banned as a result.

Denali is our biggest park and cars are there all the time. Bikes are not forbidden as you can bike the park roads and there are even guided bike tours. Fairbanks and the surrounding areas are just as modern as any city and the roads are fine. So take it from this Alaskan and go have some fun!!
