Mountain bike shoes. Actually I wear Vans, left over from my BMX days...SPD compatible, but my wife's mountain shoes don't look too far off from black sneakers.

These look pretty civil to me. I wear these most of the time while being out and about.

When I actually intend to go for a longer ride and don't intend on walking around I wear these considering they're better for me to ride in, as far as support goes, they do look a bit odd though.

I'll bet the guys who wear these are probably gay too. Seriously, it's a specialized athletic shoe for a specific sport. It's like that for the lycra too. Football players wear spandex and silly shoes, wrestle each other to the ground, and slap each others assess, but nobody calls that gay.

Of course cycling is the only sport that has flashy shoes. I mean when has basketball ever had silly looking shoes?

Helmets are already gay...most of them. Sitting high on your head, funny shape, all the holes...
Get a bmx or skateboard helmet..round like your head, plenty of padding, y'know..non-gay!

Golly, people in this thread are so out of touch. Don't you know gay doesn't mean *****exual in this context? It means wacky, slightly absurd, colorful, far out, something like that. Language changes, and gay has a new meaning. Wake up and get with the 21st century!

No, absolute none of us realized the connotation...

Given that it is the 21st century, I'd expect people to be more sensitive and less juvenile than displayed here

Maybe I'm lame, but I don't see the fun in associating things with sexual orientation?!?

I am in the 21st century, hell I'm 15. I'v probably heard "gay" used in that context (literally) over a million times.

Doesn't mean I have to like it.

If you think it's funny....yea,why not?

THEY ARE JUST WORDS..BIG DEAL,LIGHTEN UP! Everyone is SO offended! Get over it.
All of this politically correct B.S. It's ridiculous! WORDS, not physical harm!
It's like when people go ballistic when someone gives them THE FINGER! Where did that come from?
Oh no,the finger! If you read something and don't like it, don't respond and get worked up over it.
There are so many important things going on in the world everyday...don't let stuff like this make
you angry. It's just the way people talk and see things. They think it's funny and you don't and
vice versa. That's the way it is and will always be so don't waste your energy over it.
No harm done,you don't agree..but that's ok...no big deal.

I find it annoying...I don't want flashy bright colors, even the black ones look like they shine like dress shoes.

Ugh!!
Gee, and lycra shorts and jerseys, and many cycling socks don't? Did I mention helmets? Oh and yes, probably the silliest looking piece of cycling attire is the very thing I am wearing in my avatar - a Louis Garneau Rocket helmet!

I don't think its too bad.....black bike shorts and a black/grey tank top is what I usually wear. The helmets all look roughly the same...I guess I'm just into all the bright colors which is mostly what I see. I would like more blacks, browns and grey (and without silver and yellow streaks and such).

Still.....I think I accomplished my goal.....a few people have posted some shoes much more to my style so now I have something more to go on. I hadn't done a lot of online looking....just what was at my LBS and it was all (now I realize) road shoes and all are either colorful or black with super shiny silver stripes.
