Why do bike shoes all look so gay?

I've been thinking about making the next plunge and possibly getting bike shoes and the pedals.

One thing that annoys me is that almost every shoe I see looks like it was worn by an elf in Lord of the Rings. Why are they all so damn frilly looking.

I find it annoying...I don't want flashy bright colors, even the black ones look like they shine like dress shoes.

Ugh!!

first off they aren't "gay". They are silly looking. I don't know how *****exual shoes can be, but it can't possibly be that much.

Second, get some black sidi's. here are some non "gay" ones:

Only two posts.....I thought it would go a "little" further before somebody would make that comment....I "knew" it was coming. LOL

Anyway...those ones aren't too bad looking. I like brown shoes that are kind of "hiking" looking.....any like that out there that anyone knows of?

My shoe are quite happy, thankyouverymuch.

If you're speaking about how it appears the toes all point upwards, consider your foot position while pedalling; you're not flat-footed.

My road shoes:

My mtn shoes:

The shoes you're looking for are out there, you're just not looking hard enough.

Nice!!! I've never seen any shoes like that...but much more like what I'm "wanting"!!

If I lined all the shoes up at the LBS I think it would look like a rainbow with shiny silver and black streaks everywhere.

Wow they are way nicer than my oldish silver Specialized Comps. They match my Ti frame, I wear black shorts with silver piping, a silver Pace jersey and a silver Giro Eclipse helmet as well as silver rimmed wraparound sunglasses. My bike is carbon and Ti so my clothing match. Black hubs and rims, black aero spokes, Hutch Fusion tires, silver stripe and black. Come on get with it man color coordinating is not gay it's da way. You shoula seen the girl on the black Serotta I saw this weekend she had pink and black shoes. The contrast with the FSA Carbon Crankset was quite nice. Pink jersey and black shorts....My kinda gal. Her shoes din't look gay to me nor did the rest of her.

Golly King, first you need to educate us on what makes a hunk of leather and canvas turn "gay". Can helmets turn "gay" also? If I keep my helmets and shoes in separate closets, will that reduce their "gay" tendencies. You obviously have some insights into "gay" clothing that the rest of us may have missed.

I'd be happy if Vans or DC make some clipless biking shoes.

They are more my style.

Specialized sonomas. Those things look like nice sneakers, all black and no ugly logos and flashy colors. I wear them to school

Maybe these are more like the "brown hiking boot looking" shoes you think you'd like better:

Cannondale makes some similar to these.

Try Shimano M058 if you want non-flashy SPD shos. Favored by bike cops I've been told. They are comfortable for riding and walking. I've got >10000 miles on a pair and they are going strong. No longer available in black it seems but the grey is not too bad.

Yes, specialized Sonomas, Pearl Izumi Grooves, and some of the Lake and Exustar offerings look like regular shoes.

And using 'gay' to describe inanimate objects is lame. Lots of people here ask about regular looking shoes, myself included, since I don't like the extremely fancy look of some of the shoes, but I don't feel the need to beat my chest to let everyone know how straight I am whenever I ask about it. Get over yourself.

peace,
sam
