Sidewall cut a concern?
Would you be concerned about this?

I'm normally just a "replace it" person, but I'd rather replace it with an online order I was already planning on instead of right now at REI. Looks to be just the rubber, not the cords, just not sure if I should be worried riding it tomorrow.

It might depend a bit on your riding. Competitive racing? Casual rides? Technical off-road?
I'd probably give it a go with pulling the tire and gluing in some kind of pliable, non-stretch fabric inside. NOT PARK BOOTS.
Gorilla Tape?

Gee, looks deep... Is the tire maximally inflated? Can you see any of the tube sticking out? The last tire I replaced you could clearly see areas that had worn down to the point that the tube was visible. Don't know how it didn't flat, but it may have been that they were smallish areas on the most re-enforced parts of the tread. I'd probably risk it, but if it suddenly blew on a bump I wouldn't be surprised...
What about keeping the tire under-inflated until you get the new one? Sounds pretty miserable...

I don’t see any cord damage. I would take it off the rim and inspect the inside. If no damage, then reinstall and carry on.

Bring an extra tube and a $1 bill to boot it if needed.
or bring a tube and a $100 bill and really ride without worry.

Heh, I've still got most of my crap in my car from my last tour. Two tubes, a patch kit, a folding tire, a roll of Gorilla tape and a full toolkit it is!

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.
Me too.
My test is to pump it up to operating pressure. If I can feel a bump or blister at the cut site, I assume that the casing has been compromised and I replace the tire. Otherwise I don't worry about it.

i'd replace it. The small risk of a flat inducing crash, or a long walk home out weigh the cost of replacing it to me.
That said, i'd ride it until I could get it replaced.
If it's a front tire, I might move it to the back in the interim

Temporarily a bit of superglue along the crack and keep riding it.

Ended up riding it on the 36 mile ride (with a spare folder, just in case), no issues. Didn't get any worse, theres no bulging, and it was already on the back, but I'll still pull it off this week and give it a look over. Might just hit it with some black rubber sealant if all else looks good, it appears to not be to the cords.

^^ Put some shoe goo on it or maybe some mayonnaise or tempra paint and if it doesn't get any worse then ride it.
Confidence that it will hold up long term is proportional to the distance away from home you ride so don't hold back.

I threw in a new tube and rode it home.
I still need to inspect the bike for brake damage from the nail pinging.
Then inspect the tire in the daylight.
I don't think I'll chuck the tire, but see if it needs a boot or something.
The nail size looks bigger in the picture, and it was tight when I pulled it out (stapling the tube to the tire wall).
I suppose it could have been worse. I could be asking if an extra hole in the rim makes a difference.
Although, I did buy a pair of Compass tires that I'm itching to try out.

Please don't post any more threads about holes in X'Plor USH tires. Bad Karma.

How does one get a nail in the tire like that, put in a tube, ride it home, remove the tire and the nail is still there?
