I definitely think that vaping is far less dangerous than smoking, mainly because you're not breathing in all that toxic smoke. But I'm not sold that vaping is 100% risk free. I really don't have a dog in this fight though, because I don't smoke or vape. But I'd much rather be around someone who vapes rather than someone who smokes, because I really can't stand the stench of cigarette smoke. It triggers my migraines and makes me nauseous. At least with vaping there's no secondhand smoke.

No, not really...there is lot of mis-information out there surrounding vaping:

I'll drop this now, since this is turning into a 'vaping' vs. 'smoking' debate and as [MENTION=423651]Maelochs[/MENTION] suggests, probably isn't any longer addressing the OPs question.

I don't feel like an expert on anything except quitting smoking. Go to that site "why quit" and read either book and you will understand that nicotine changes your brain and the best record of people quitting is cold turkey above all other ways. Using other nicotine ( that is poison by the way ) products to quit a nicotine habit doesn't work very well for obvious reasons. Other things like quitting coffee or alcohol my help to a minor extent but I didn't do that. I quit smoking nicotine and do not indulge in any other nicotine, products or vape to get that sensation. It wasn't long at all beroe I felt like an actual non-smoker. More like reformed smoker. It is awesome not to be a slave to nicotine any longer. This is a bike forum but I just had to get that out. Tell everyone you know that smokes!

Most authoritative review so far: No evidence of long-term lung injury, but exposure to harmful chemicals:

It's very clear that the exposure is far less than cigs, and the only confirmed risk so far is explosion of defective batteries.

After numerous attempts to quit smoking, I found a small self-help book - can't remember what it was called or where it came from - but the approach it took was to personalize the urge to smoke, by inventing a character called the The Addict. It basically went "Inside you is a person called The Addict, who is constantly trying to get you to smoke. You've finished a job? The Addict suggests you have a smoke - you deserve it. Having a drink? Here comes The Addict..." etc etc. Maybe I was deflecting my own weakness and being able to blame someone else who did not have my best interests at heart, but it worked for me. I also stayed away from bars for the first few weeks (back in the day when you could have a smoke with your beer). That was >20 years ago, and while I occasionally get nostalgic about the whiff of a freshly-lit cigarette, I have no urge to light up.

When we aren't out riding, the BF contingent is a surly lot, always looking for arguments.

Getting clean can be a very difficult and painful process. If you have made it most of the way ... Awesome.

I quit drinking first, then drugs, and cigarettes a while later. It happened when the time was right. Pretty sure whatever method you choose, whenever it is right, you will succeed. It might not be the first time ... but at some point it will be the last time.

When I quit smoking I prayed for help and bought a ton of those 5cent size atomic fireballs. Mouth got blisters sometimes but they sure did do the trick.

Smoking is very addictive. Even though my last cigarette was in 1976 - after about 3 pack years over 6 calendar years - I have recently had thoughts that smoking one would be pleasant............Ain't gonna happen but the thought will always be stuck in my head.

No one really knows what the long term effects of vaping may be.

i actually bought a pack a few years back ... didn't like it enough to buy another.

Ah, more sensationalism from websites looking for clicks. Still, the study showed that vape products have the same chemical which has been linked to popcorn lung, so there may be more study needed. But you'd think if there were a problem you'd start seeing it in people who vape since it's been around for a few years now.

What ever you do, just don't start gambling you money away at the casino. While gambling doesn't shorten your life's positive health conditions as smoking menthol tobacco, it can ruin other aspects far worse.

I know many that went from smoking menthol tobacco to traditional cigars. They enjoy the leisure, & do it far less, mainly due to cost & accessibility. Not any better of a habit switch, however, it does change to a different social persona.

Of course it doesn't impact everyone the same. Some will drop dead at 50, others will survive into their 90's.

You won't really know which camp you will fall into until you get lung cancer or bladder cancer or throat cancer, or emphysema... Or you are one that make it to a good old age, and kick it for some other reason.

And, of course, secondary effects such as asthma in children.

One thing that helped me quit was when I realized the smoke you exhale is the color of pus. Now when I sit in my car at a red light and notice a smoker in the car next to me it makes me gag.

Regarding smoking: we're all different. When I quit, after 25 years of smoking, I really wanted to on a emotional level. When you really want it, doing it becomes easier. First, I went from 1- 1/2 packs per day to 1 cigarette after each meal. I did that for 2 weeks or so.

Once I gave up cigarettes totally, several times during the day I would kind of go through the inhale motions but using the non-point end of a pen. I'd do that with very deep and long drags/ "inhales." That seemed to negate the need at that point.

After the first week it got better and better. You can do it too! Millions of Americans have as well!

Only thing that worked for me.

RUBIX CUBE. Sounds dumb but I was able to quit cold turkey with the help of a rubix cube. Trying to learn kept my mind occupied through the shakes. Kicked a twenty year habit with a kids toy.

Yeah ... many of us have been there. I smoked my "last" cigarette about 4,000 times.
