I carry one to two tubes, and a tiny self-adhesive patch kit. Every bike store sells these kits.

1st (and possibly 2nd) flat gets a new tube. Subsequent flats get patches. Every so often I actually do use a patch because I've had a bad luck streak.

This is why 1 or 2 CO2 cartridges can sometimes be inadequate as well. I carry one or two cartridges, but occasionally still need to use my pump.

If they decide to run a MacGyver II, I think we have a candidate for the lead role.

I tend to get flats in bunches... none for 6-9 months and then 3 or 4 in a row, frequently 2 on one ride. That's usually when I chuck the tire.

Nice solution, OP!

I've tried adhesive patches without much luck, never tried electrical tape. Today I forgot both phone and lock. I remember riding back when I didn't "need" either one. Times have changed. Got around the 32 mile ride without needing the lock. Kept one eye out at Starbucks. The phone would have been nice to have, though. We saw an amazing display of cactus flowers. We have been riding this road for years, the cactus is always there, never saw any blooms. These were loaded. After the ride I got back to the car, and shot these.
I got the bike out of the car, and shot this "ride" photo.
