Under Garment Question
I have my first ride behind me wearing my first set of padded bibs. I have an honest question.... Do people ride with underwear or without underwear when you ride with padded shorts/bibs.??
I'm thinking this will go 50/50 just like in real life. I really think I have found complete comfort in wearing the padded bibs in combination with a Selle Anatomica saddle. I rode with underwear on that first ride.
Are pads designed to be used without underwear.??

I think this question comes up, in part, because of the association some see between a 'pad' (chamois, natural or artificial) and 'padding' in cycling shorts/bibs (aka 'Not Shorts' on Bike Forums).
To my mind, 'padding' is not the primary -- or even a secondary -- purpose of the chamois. Its primary purpose is to prevent chafing.
Wearing 'underwear' between skin and chamois defeats that purpose.
End serious response. Carry on.

I usually wear ultra thin wicking fabric Champion boxer-briefs under my padded bike shorts. Works for me. I've tried both ways since the 1970s. With is more comfortable for me.
It's the same fabrics used in most cycling clothes. It doesn't defeat the purpose of the pads. And it provides better support. The Champion shorts have a breathable mesh pouch for Frank and the beans, so everything stays where it belongs but doesn't overheat.
But don't try that with regular cotton undies.

It took me awhile to get used to it, but no undies is the way to go.

Whenever these threads arise, I always wonder if the OP is afraid of his/her cycling bibs/shorts ripping and being fully exposed?
It is an honest question.
I frequently wear 2XU 3/4 compression tights over my cycling shorts to add muscle support and sun protection on the knees.

No underwear under bibs/shorts, and just wait until you discover the benefits of smearing Butt Butt'r all over your ball bag and butt...
That actually might not be a bad idea...I had my first ride today in bibs and the suspenders/straps were sort of uncomfortable/annoying against bare skin...maybe ultra thin base layer underneath is the solution?
