Bikes: too many of all kinds

I've used the ones that just clamp to the seat tube (although eventually they fatigue and break on me). I'll also go to the hardware store and get some rubberized P-clamps to bolt the rack to my frame (that doesn't fatigue).

I have seen some that mount to the wheel axle.

Many people use the seatpost mounted racks for 'bikepacking', but they often design their touring setup to be ultralight. If you want to carry heavier stuff then the seatpost racks are not ideal. Sape goes for P-clamps - these can work for securing the rack to the seatstays to prevent fore-aft movement, but if you use them to connect the legs of the rack near the frame's dropouts, they will eventually break.

What sort of bike do you have? There may be other options but it's impossible to know without details on the bike.

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

Do you need a rack or just a large saddle bag? There are plenty of options for large saddle bags that might do the job for you.

Tailfin. https://www.tailfin.cc/

I used these bags on my Roubaix for a 4 day bikepacking trip.
Not cheap. I was lucky to find a set on ebay for pennies on the dollar.

Try something like this... (not necessarily this one. This was just the first on the Amazon search)

https://www.amazon.com/Lumintrail-Bi...NsaWNrPXRydWU=

It clamps to the seat post and to the frame. Clamps, not bolts.

There are a few dozen variations on this on Amazon.

Does your bike have a triangular cutout on the rear dropout? I assume that you're wanting a rear rack?

If your bike has the rear cutout triangle on the dropout then these adapters made by Blackburn are very useful.

There are lots but you don't want one. I tried four seatpost mounted racks. Three rubbed on my thighs when pedaling, and the other wasn't strong enough to keep a laptop containing pannier out of my spokes.

Use an adapter replacing your skewer or a pair of P-clamps for the bottom mount. You can use padded P-clamps with hose clamps above and below to maintain their location. Use P-clamps or a seat clamp adding eyelets for the top.

Searching "vinyl coated clamps" in Amazon will bring up the clamps that I use in lieu of eyelets.

Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones

[QUOTE=Dirt Farmer;21122626][QUOTE]Why? You have rack mounts and the amount of copper you used is both heavy and far more expensive than an aluminum rack would cost.

There are any number of them. A Google search will turn up a number of them. Others have suggest P-clamps which can work but I like to use Tubus rack clamps. They are stronger and easier to use. I’ve used them for both the top and bottom mounts without issues for many years.

If there's any one user here on bikeforums that would remotely take this seriously, it's you, cyccommute!

A friends got one of the Topeak ones that attach to just the seatpost
https://www.topeak.com/global/en/products/racks

He did find it "bounced" a bit so has just put some straps between the saddle rails and the rack and he uses it with a 22 ltr bag / panniers and loves it ... I'm putting one on my Xmas list.

What bike do you have? Can you post or link to an image of the dropout?

Cheers

Well it isn’t a drawing and it doesn’t appear to be a CGI so some built it for some reason and you posted it. Other people really might think it’s an option.

It’s not my fault your joke fell flat.

Tubus also has the QR adapter that attaches to the quick release. The problem that I see, is a rear flat will have the rack loose when removing the rear wheel.

The tubus fly rear rack has adapters to mount onto seat stays, and onto rear axles with quick release skewers.

What kind of bike? What is the purpose of the rack? (touring, commuting, grocery shopping) Do a search, this has been answered
- P-clamps
- Seat-post clamp with rack mounts (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Axiom-Trekk-Mount-Seatpost-Clamp/dp/B00TJ6AJLQ/)
Wheel skewer / brake mount racks, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Axiom-Streamliner-Road-Cycle-Black/dp/B0025UCXEO/ or https://www.amazon.com/Axiom-Streamliner-Disc-Cycle-Black/dp/B004094HY2 or https://www.amazon.com/Blackburn-Cen.../dp/B00GCB4PMA
