BTW.. make it 5 since i forgot i have a Torque Key at 5nm that came with my Emonda.

There are certain things for which you must have a torque wrench. No need to list those here as a few of the uses would cause an uproar here. You definitely must not do any of those things, or maintain any of the items for which one must use a torque wrench or risk damaging it or causing it to fail at an inopportune time.

I have one steel road bike, one TI road bike and one carbon gravel bike. I want a cheap fat bike, but the Covid bike boom hit before I could find one. So 4 will be perfect for me, eventually.

are bike stores low on inventory like the gym world is on weights, barbells etc..

I have a 2013 Trek 520, a 2020 Trek 520, a 2005 Greenspeed tandem tadpole recumbent trike, a 1972 Raleigh Sports (internal 3 speed hub) and my girlfriend has a bike in my garage. So five different sets of tires which of course have to be aired up every few days if you ride the bike regularly or before a ride if not.

The other day it was time to take the Sports for a spin. Aired up the tires to 85 lbs/in^2. About 3 miles out there was a loud bang and the rear tire was completely flat. Walked it home rather than fix it there.

Eventually I realized 85 lbs/in^2 is the max pressure for my girlfirend's bike. The Sports wants at most 55 lbs/in^2!!!

Of course, maybe it's because I'm old and can't keep things straight!

A few frames, lots of wheels and parts in bins. Can always, fix, repair or just build up something new to cover emergencies.

Trek Stache, Trek Checkpoint, Fuji Reveal, Trek Verve and a Haibike e- mtn bike are currently in the garage. Maybe a true road bike but I don't think it would get much use.

I had 10 bikes. Just sold 5 in last two months.

If you have the space then why not. I'm not into collecting, but if you are really into the hobby you need at least 2 which is your mountain bike and road bike. You could easily make it 3 by having one beater bike that you use for grocery runs or commuting. Then you might find you like riding some mountain bike trails that don't need full suspension so you have a hardtail mountain bike.

Arguably there is no one bicycle that can do everything well.

But it's all about how much money you have and how much space you have. If you have enough of both then I'm not going to judge or be jealous.

The main thing is that no matter how many bikes you have they don't all sit there not being used. Personally, I think that's the job of museums. Everything else should be ridden and enjoyed with failed parts replaced.

Wrong question to ask in the Bike Forums. 4 bikes is the minimum number to have. Less and you get no respect. :lol:

I don't even have one bike... I just use the local Trek bikes (B-Cycle) in the city :(

if they all serve the puporses you need then no , an MTB bike is very specific doubt your other bikes could do what it does , i have 5 bikes but i only use 2 the most , the other two are used for crits and cyclross and stay up out of the way untill i need them , i cant do CX on my road bike , and i cant race crits on my climbing bike , at least it wouldn't be the best choice , it took me almost 4 years to get all these bikes and i im happy , so be happy !

The current count in my garage is seven bikes for a family of four. That number is subject to change in either direction as our kids are growing and I keep an eye out for cool old rigid steel mountain bikes on craigslist.
