Help me decide between three bikes

This would be for commuting, grocery getting, rides less than 15 miles.

The Schwinn LeTour 12.2 goes for $185 firm, plain LeTour is $80. The Hybrid he is asking $100. Not sure I could get the last person to bargain

I like older bikes, but for your purpose I would take the Scott if it fits you.

I thought the leTours were cool too. The Super LeTour seemed a bit high. I have a rear rack but it would not work without an adapter on the other LeTour. I'm 50 and I think the drops would be hard to get used to.

Now I'm leaning toward this one for $60

I prefer flat or comfort bars for short errands because I can be more upright. Helps to see traffic better and to make sure motorists are looking you in the eye before they make that right hand turn by your bike lane. So the Scott or Spalding, or whichever can accommodate a rack if you need to add one.

With some conditioning you can ride anything for 15 miles. One thing about the older bikes is you are likely limited to fairly narrow tires, which need to be pumped up more, which means they are less comfortable on bad pavement. The Scott will probably be a lot smoother ride.

Another thing to consider is maintenance. If you are not comfortable repairing / maintaining bikes, consider the cost of repair/maintenance of each.

Thanks! I like the idea of an old bullet proof low tech bike, I really am not interested in re-greasing bearings and all of the dismantling and fixing I guess comes with buying an older bike.

I guess I also didn't mention that the city I live in is HELLA-hilly. Biking from the grocery store back to my house involves a 900ft elevation climb....probably more pleasant with the new, lighter bike I'm guessing.

I never see anything that decent on CL around here for less than $300. I would jump on any of those if it fit.

Based on the length of the head tubes, I suspect the Spalding and the Scott have much smaller frames than the two Schwinns. My guess is that both Schwinns are sized for riders who are well over six feet tall.
