Help needed fitting front brakes

Hello everyone, I just bought a rockrider st100 a couple of days ago, arrived today, and I was trying to assemble it.
However, after disconnecting the brakes to fit the front tyre, I can't seem to connect to brakes again. I searched for a bit, and it seems to be pretty similar to what was happening in a thread here called "cannot connect front brake after removing wheel" (can't post links I guess).
Thing is, I can't for the life of me reconnect the brakes, even after loosening them.
Tyre seems centered and brakes seem to be hitting the rim, not the tyre. But the strangest thing is that, in the default position, they are already hitting the wheel, i.e. even if I eventually do reconnect the brakes, they will always be pressing against the rim. Am I gonna have to mess with the cable length or is there something that I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming the brake was properly aligned to begin with, check both ends of the brake cable housing to make sure they are fully inserted into the stops.
