You should allow in your budget for a used bike that you might have to replace that sort of stuff either immediately or when it becomes and issue. It is after all a used bike. The bike looks well used. So maybe the owner will be happy to take less for the bike knowing that you too want to use it and not let it take up space in a garage.
You know how to check for chain wear with a steel tape or scale don't you. If it's more than a 1/16" out, probably that needs replacing. Know the cost of a 10 speed chain. If the chain is more than 1/8" out, then the ring or rings might be worn too as well as the cassette.
Add these little things up in your head as you look at it in person and decide if that is worth it to you and ask for a reduction in the sale price.
You are going to replace those tires too aren't you? 35 bucks each for decent tires.
And also realize that 10 speed chains and parts are getting scarce too in some areas as is 11 speed stuff. So if this has too much that need fixing now. You might not be riding anytime soon.

You don’t like blue tires?

i will buy some black tires but those blue ones have good tread left. My wife may or may not understand I want a different color.

After seeing that FB listing I can see why $600 is making more sense.
Seller doesn't know the exact year or size, so probably not the original owner. Bike has disgusting bar tape, mismatched components (including a very old and beat up Tiagra left shifter). No clear photo of front mech (is it Ultegra or something else?). In the photo of the seat tube (not sure why this photo was even included) what is going on with the under side of the top tube? Is this just a weird reflection or some kind of scratch/scuff?
I don't know about the chainrings, but if the chain is worn to the point where the bike isn't shifting correctly, it's likely the cassette also needs to be replaced.
At a minimum I'd be doing the following:
New Ultegra shifter: $150-$200
New Ultegra chain: $40
New Ultegra cassette: $70
New bar tape: $30
New brake pads: $20
New brake and shifter cables/housing: $40
That's $400, plus there's the matter of replacing those ridiculous tires, and finding matching bottle cages. This also assumes the wheels, freehub, headset and bottom bracket bearings are in good working order, and the seller is including the pedals (and they work).
Good luck.

lets say I have a little knowledge on Spec Carbon bikes...
let's say this was a silk purse, now looking a bit sow's ear...
and when you're buying used you need to be able to accept scratches, need for new consumables, as long as structure and most key stuff is in good mechanical shape.
but
This was a 2012 Roubaix Expert SL3 ... predominently Ultegra, with DT Swiss wheels, new prolly in the High $3K ...
The frame now, if in solid condition, is easily worth $500, maybe $600
The key stuff, Frame condition, Wheels condition (not the tires...), BB, Headset. Derailleurs, Crankset, Brifters...
The ONLY way to know the true condition of these components is to put hands on the bike.
The pics tell you almost nothing. Except the Front Brifter is now a Tiagra - which may want to be replaced at some point...
Tires, bar tape ??? come on, who buys or doesn;t buy a bike because of these...? They are consumables !!! as are chains, and by the way, Roubaix work well with most any 10 spd chain, I prefer KMC and avoid wipperman... if a chain is even needed...
Crank - big ring is a Question, left side of ring teeth seem cupped, right side of ring teeth seem fine - That can't be... if they're cupped, then they would all show that... So the image is just not telling the true condition. Yes a new big ring would be about $100...
so, how much are you willing to live with and work with over a period of time? The tires are certainly awful... LOL!
But really, you'd be hard pressed to find a nice SPec Allez for $600-700. A Roubaix SL3 at that price - highly unlikely.
Have you ridden a Roubaix? Is this size appropriate for you? Roubaixs are certainly very nice riding bikes... I have a couple, although a bit older than this one...
You can have this bike in very good condition... in a 54cm, one year newer... it may need bartape... here:
Specialized 2013 Roubaix Expert SL3 Compact
If I were reasonably close to Granbury and interested in getting a Roubaix, I would prolly make the trip and put hands on...
It may actually be a Pygmalion silk purse, for the patient owner...
BTW, if you do get to see it, the pic of the seat tube... at top, on the underside of the top tube, is the badge holding the model year and bike serial number...
Thx
Yuri

Some good points. But when I see a bike that has obviously been neglected and maintained on a shoestring I presume the worst. But yeah, the frame could easily be worth the asking price if you don't mind re-building the rest of the bike. But probably not a great choice if you want something that you can just ride straight out of the box with minimal work.
The drivetrain didn't look bad to me from the photo but I really can't tell from a photo.
For me, this might be a great deal (if it were my size) because I have some spare parts and know how to do the work. Also, I know (well, I believe) that if the bike was really hurt, I would be able to tell with a personal inspection.
The feeling I get is that the owner/seller know s that in order to make the bike really valuable, s/he would have to make serious investment---a new brifter and bar tape at the very least--and the seller simply doesn't want to.
For someone who didn't have parts, tools, a little spare cash, and time to spend, this might be a reasonable investment. For someone who wants a headache-free, ready-to-ride bicycle, this obviously isn't it.

I agree with both this and with cyclezen. The frame alone could be worth the price of entry .... but if the whole bike has been beat don and used up ..... However, I'd imagine the paint would show any crash damage, scrapes, etc. The missing brifter is a little worrisome because it is the right (rear) brifter which usually dies first .... crash damage? But I figure I'd notice any signs of the frame or fork hitting hard.

One thing I missed, wasn't payin attention to - this year was transition year to 11 spd - now looking closer - that Ultegra RD and Chain - 11 speed!
Tiagra Brifter is the Left side, so front Shift... it may not look great, but those are bulletproof and will likely shift the front just fine, until upgrade is decided...

Right side, rear Brifter is Ultegra, prolly the carbon 11 spd and looks very clean... and if a little sticky internals, a solid flush with WD40 thru the shifter internals and it'll run like new.
I've rescued many a Brifter which the owner thought was shot - just gummed up with years of crud, Never oil a brifter, just flush clean....
Further thoughts...
DT Swiss wheels are nice Mid-grade wheels - quite durable and ride very nice - I like better than any Mavics I've used...
The Blue tires... I think, whomever set this up was using the bike as 'gravel bike'. Those tires, ugly but bombproof and just about right as cheap gravel stuff... Prolly a $10 tire deal...
One could part-out the good stuff and make at least $500 over the asking price...
Carbon seatpost, Toupe top series saddle... looks 155... Even if it new BB - that's a threaded design - cheap, easy replacement...
A weekend of attention and some willingness to think longer term - that's a very nice bike... IF 'hands on' inspection shows most of the stuff to be ok...
Thx

I talked to the seller again. I will go next week and at least check it out in person.
As for working on it I should be able to. Dad was a Honda motorcycle mechanic and i was until the market dropped back in the ‘80s.
I really need to check it in person.

I bought it today. It looks much better in person than the pics. The bar tape however looks as bad in person as in the pics. That’s a minor issue.
He threw in a new chain. We also negotiated a lower price than in the ad.
I need to get some cycling shoes with cleats.
I do need to clean the chain. He used some kind of chain lube. I want to use a wax lube.

When I buy a used machines, instant change of bar tape - used bar tape (not by you/me...) is like getting someone else's undies... LOL!
but seriously, sometimes an awful appearance can keep us from looking closer... and appreciating what is really there...
Glad it worked out for you...
wishing that it continues to 'grow' on you (sorry just had to...) lotsa great miles, riding and experiences !
Ride on!

What happens if I start liking my smurf tires?
They do have a lot of tread life left. I will start piling n the miles until I wear them enough to justify new, proper black, tires.
The new bar tape almost makes it look like a different bike.
