If'n you wear regular shoes because your cheap bike doesn't have fancy clipless pedals, then the walk home is less sad, as opposed to knowing every clomp clomp is destroying your cleats bit by bit.

Hate to say it but the fellow has a 1st world problem. If you can afford to buy a $8,000.00+ bike then you also buy the bust if something goes wrong. A derailleur smashing into the rear wheel of a $100 Walmart bike causes the same damage, maybe even less, but you're only out $100 bucks.

If that bike was a stretch (financially) for the rider, then, well, he learned a hard lesson. If it was like buying a pack of gum, then he can go out and buy another $,8,000.00 bike.

I think the take-away is to always carry your phone so you can call an Uber.

Your story was a badly-told dud, and it's not because people were too slow. I wouldn't say it if your response hadn't been this gratuitous insult.

Next time go full pirate voice, might make the not very poignant story a more entertaining read.

It is a universal sadness and one shared by many. Much like the slow and deliberate pain from a tap to the nuts...….this pain is universally shared an understood by all men.
When a upper middle class gentleman in full cycling kit and pushing a new full carbon Italian racing bike with the appropriate Italian bling ( campy) is forced to walk because of damage to "said" bike..
This my friends.....this is a deep long standing type of pain, for some "traumatic pain" this my friends will linger , linger like the wet dirty inside of one's bib after a grueling 100 mile gravel ride.
Peace out.

Kind of flipped from underwritten to overwritten, if you ask me. Not sure if this is a tragedy misfire or a comedy misfire.

Gotta say, I'm not going to assume someone riding the challenging terrain of the GWB on an $8000 bike is "middle class".

I once witnessed a Ferrari (512? TR?) get t-boned when the guy tried to slip across 3 lanes of traffic waiting for a light. Yep the third lane was still moving. It's always fun when you can laugh at and feel superior to richer folks!

I still love that 2018 TireRack commercial, where the guy drives into the parking ramp with his bike on a roof rack. The best part is when the girl coming out of out of the ramp looks over and says, “want to go for a bike ride”, her laughter as she drives off is priceless. Sorry, tried to find a copy I could post, but failed, hopefully someone else can show me up on that.
The biker in the commercial, looked so sad picking up his crumpled ride behind his car.

This in not an airport. You didn’t need to announce your departure.
