When was the last time...-
I ran some errands yesterday after work, and picked up some huge pieces of styrofoam for a project. I loaded it on my bike (tried, at least), and caught a whiff of my saddle.
My question: When was the last time you smelled your saddle?
*snicker*

"You smell that? Do you smell that? That's saddle, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of saddle in the morning. The smell, you know that sweaty leather smell...
... Smells like - victory."

Powerbars and gels tend to make me a bit gassy on rides, so there's NO way my nose is getting anywhere near my saddle.

My saddle was smelling like roses two weekends ago on tour- every time I bent over the rear panniers I'd get a whiff of floral perfume...I thought my s*** didn't stink, until I realized it was some doggie duty bags I'd grabbed at the ranger station and stuffed in my seatbag as saddle covers for my Brooks (It was a wet weekend!)

I love the smell of leather, so I give my newish Selle Italia Flite Gel Flo a whiff every time I get ready to ride. Once the saddle starts to smell more like my butt than freshly-tanned leather, that'll be the end of that,
May I ask why you're curious about this?

LOL I was just wondering if anybody was taken away by the scent of their saddle. I, myself, could not believe the scent, but my bike has had one previous owner... so maybe it's not all me.
Although there have been days where I'd wear the same shorts on my commutes for days at a time...-

If yours smells like butt, maybe try riding with clothes on?
EDIT: (note: this was a feeble attempt at humour, not criticism... ;)
My saddle is a WAY old Brooks found in the trash about a month ago - a c.1985 "Competition" model. I'm not the first owner - maybe not even 10th.
It was an ass-hatchet when I got it but it's breaking in nicely.
FWIW, I heated it with a hair-dryer and rubbed in a combination of petroleum jelly and beeswax. It really does smell awesomely like leather - though I never would've thought to give it a wiff until you mentioned it. Brooks leather breathes so if it ever did pick up a smell, it could be aired out (or washed - *carefully*).

What kind of saddle is it? Noticed your profile - do you have pictures of your bikes online? I love classic Schwinns.

No clue - the smell of oil on my tires from the blacktop roads I ride covers up any other smell on my bike. Except when I freshly lube the chain...mmm...
I suppose I could remove the saddle, but seeing as how the saddle hasn't been moved in oh, 5 years, and I know for a fact it's quite stuck, I don't think it's worth the effort. At some point, I'll have to do something about that.

My saddle probably smells of taco bell farts....however the experience I had sniffing my MTB's saddle left me feeling rather weak in the legs and of stomach for a few minutes.
Really sniffing markers is a far more rewarding task....extra happy panda bonus points if it's one of those humongous "magnum" markers!
