C'mon. It's just that irascible BikeForum wit you're supposed to just roll with, right?

Actually a rear camera on a bike that could be bluetoothed to a phone would be a great idea. I'm surprised that hasn't caught on.

Wait, you thought you were being witty?
My annoyance just turned to pity.
Seriously, that joke was ______.

No I was being sardonic. Never mind. You probably should buy a flag. Not for your bike, just for walking around town.

People that are so anti-mirror, to the point of making fun of others, are just pro-racing wannabes. If their heroes don't roll a certain way, they follow like sheep and any other way is mocked as a method that no "true cyclist" would ever consider.

I'm not anti-mirror. In fact, I find the presence of a bike-mounted mirror a reliable indicator of a cyclist's bike handling skills. It's like wearing a sign on their back that reads, "proceed with caution".

Careful about wearing out the bristles on that broad brush of yours.

Some of us use Varia radar instead. It’s a wonderful tool.
My 70 YO wife is no pro-racer wannabe and doesn’t use a mirror. At 68, I’m not either.
Some of could care less about what others do or think - its a waste of time.
Interesting that you denigrate people who denigrate others. Two wrongs make a right?

If I don’t hear back with something derogatory, I will be amazed. Amaze me.

I do NOT broad brush, hence the part of my sentence: "...to the point of making fun of others..."

I'm not denigrating anyone that doesn't use mirrors, I could care less. I'm only responding to those that equate those of us that use mirrors as something less than true cyclists.

My error and apologies. It’s good that people are out cycling regardless of bike, mirrors, attire or valve caps.

Not necessarily -- they could just be dbags.

So much for your ability to roll with the "irascible" joke. Hypocrite, much?
You claimed it was "irascible BikeForum wit", so now you're saying your "wit" wasn't meant to be "witty"?
I have some ideas of what you could do with a flag.<--------- Me being sardonic.

I'm pretty sure they're wanabee somethings, not sure I'd slag wanabee racers with the guilt by association.

Funny thing is I don't use a mirror, but I just find the wanabee tough-guy posturing on any safety equipment people find useful to be truly annoying.

It might be even better than you think. See how many you need to line up to heat up an egg.

Don't forget WD-40. Remember:

1) If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape.
2) If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.

Is it so wrong to wannabe a wannabe? :giver:

I've used handlebar mounted mirrors for a long time and I will continue to use them. I don't give a **** if somebody makes fun of me or what anybody says.

Just be aware that they might be larger than they appear.

Sorry, there just aren't that many rear view mirror jokes.

Maelochs 03-28-23 09:30 AM

I bought some off-brand but high-quality mirrors which use a larger Allen bolt for the mounting and a smaller one for adjustment ... I didn't realize i was supposed to be upset. Thanks for cluing me in.

You'd think they'd put it in the instructions: "The purpose of the second Allen wrench is to twist your knickers really tight--do not overtighten."

Actually, I think you're too late to order this off the Outrage du Jour menu.

Actually, if you read my OP and post 17 you'll see that I've been buying this mirror for years with only one size allen wrench with absolutely no problems. And on post 17 you'll notice that the 0.5-mm larger allen that was added is for the screws that are primarily used for adjustment. The primary mounting screw is the smaller of all the screws.

Like I said in my OP, this is just a rant, I know there are far more pressing issues in the world, so it's not like I'm losing any sleep over this; however, I was really curious if anyone else noticed this. And of course there's the curiosity part of me that is always ask Why, why, why....and just wanted others perspective, but instead I got sh*tted on by many.

I would tell people to chill out and go ride a bike, but this is a site for cycling enthusiasts...right:D

;)

I took it you knew it was a kind of a silly thing to get ranty about, and you were actually self-mocking about that. People were just playing along ,and/or lightly teasing you (we all have our pet bugaboos) If you think you've been the subject of fecal abuse in this thread, I suggest you might want to recalibrate the sh_tometer you are using because outside of the gratuitous mirror-user/flag user insult, this has been pretty good-natured.

Welcome back! This has been a fun thread and the OP set a funny relaxed tone for it by acknowledging how low-stakes this issue is.
