On the bench, it’s hard to beat the Park. It is expensive. Hozan makes a more conventional set that is cheaper. But, according to this article, they are a bit too “Phillips” to work well on Japanese screws. The Park one feels really nice, however.
I did order Wiha bits and they are marked JIS but Wiha doesn’t list those any more. The linked article does say that the Wiha bit works very well with Japanese screws.

I've also had a look for JIS bits, found this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Laser-8316-...ps%2C98&sr=8-3
JIS: JIS Ph1, JIS Ph2, JIS Ph3;
Phillips: Ph0, Ph1 , Ph2 (x2), Ph3;
Flat: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7mm;
PzDrive: Pz1 (x2), Pz2 (x3), Pz3 (x2);
Hex: 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6mm;
Star*: T10, T15, T20, T25, T30, T40.
All for £10.70
Edit: Found a good article on JIS / Phillips at Bike Gremlin: https://bike.bikegremlin.com/10583/p...s-vs-pozidriv/
Also contains info on how to find a decent JIS tool - they're often just marked Phillips these days apparently (even the JIS ones).
That says JIS will work better than phillips even on a phillips head.

Having looked at 1/4 inch bits I'm going to suggest
.
The theory being that I take just the bits I need
The driver handle is really small (and also available under several brands)

Further thought: A cleverly placed neodymian magnet could be helpful.
