The answer to both is - NO. Neither are virtue signaling if you are doing it because you actually support the issue.
It's used as a pejorative when you think the person is insincere about what they say.
Y'all's are in a mighty righteous huff over being called out for overstepping the bounds of minding ones own business. Would the o.p. be so quick to interfere if some 6'4" 260lb brute was beating on his girlfriend in public. No, he might call 911 but he wouldn't go up against someone likely to kill him without breathing hard. But a situation like that is EXACTLY when a real man shows what he is made of. Police response times being what they are, the woman concerned might appreciate a man willing to put his life on the line in the name of courage and valor.

Talk is cheap. We are the Choir. Law abiding, and (probably) not inclined to treat women with due, but not ridiculous, deference. In 2024 anything more than polite chivalry is as bad as the Victorian excesses at the turn of the Century. And we don't need unsolicited rants about how to treat women in public. You don't decide what is not virtue signaling. The terminology speaks for itself. We are instructed to do our 'good works' in secret. Likewise our reward will be in secret. I'm good with that.

If the o.p. wants to work up a YouTube video or even a seminar where paying customers can benefit from their wisdom as a superior male specimen, they have my best wishes for their success. Bike Forums is not the place for them to try out their material. And those of you lining up on the side of faux feminism should get a clue. What you are displaying is blatant sexism, even if you think it is the opposite.

Ironic. You are the one espousing attitudes and virtues from an earlier age. Can you really not see that? <SMH>

Yes. Like the earlier "politically correct." New Yorker writer Calvin Trillin remarked back in the '80's that the then-new term was used by people who spouted the same ignorant opinions they'd had all their lives but now wanted credit for bravery.

Maybe you should take some of your own advice, take a deep breath and go talk about bikes somewhere…

I comment on the poor definition of a term. You then respond with rant that questions why I am up in arms over being called out with that term?
I don't feel called out because I haven't virtue signaled. I also am not up in arms here.

BF is many things that aren't great, but toxic due to male dominated activity? Nah. It's toxic for many reasons, but that really isn't one that I have seen over the last decade.
You need to be really relxed with the word 'toxic' to claim this place is toxic due simply to having males as the overwhelming gender that posts.

I agree. It could be a lot worse in that respect.

Some of the car forums are positively brutal and go completely unmoderated. High praise to the mods here that keep a lid on it. They can’t get enough credit.

As a Soldier I bike for exercise and to get from one place to another. Remain focused on the reason you are biking and don’t let anything interrupt your time. If someone needs help that is different, but focus on form and your cycling goals and the workout will be incredible.
