Here is what I am taling about..." Then I wouldn't treat him as a troll. I would say, "No problem, thanks for clarifying." Instead he is either trolling, or simply arrogant and a jerk, and will be treated as such.

If the forum blocklist would actually block threads they start too, most of us wouldn't get involved.

1) I know what I see.
2) Pointless threads? Have you looked at most of the content here?

On some cross country forums, downhillers question the sanity of trekking for miles on long floppy skis. Doesn’t cause a stir. Hmmm. .

A large portion of cyclists have no sense of humor, and no self awareness.

Then you’re one of the people here who doesn’t know what a troll is.

This kind of reminds me of my experience moving to California from New York.

Back East, people had a different way of talking. Not sure how to describe it, except maybe "sharper". More prone to comedic hyperbole, friendly insult - whatever. If you disagreed with somebody, you'd say things like, "Ah, you're fulla ****.", not meaning more than, "I disagree". And the person you were talking to would respond, "No, YOU'RE fulla ****. Listen,..." and explain their point and nobody would get their back up. I had a girlfriend who routinely asked me for advice on experiments she was doing, or techniques she was using, and if what I said didn't agree with what she thought, she'd say, "Ah, you're fulla poo!", and nobody got offended. It was just how everyone talked.

I moved out here and discovered that people here would take offense at being told they were fulla ****! Out here, people didn't talk like that. That's just how it is.

So, when the OP says, "How exactly is chugging along with all this baggage fun ? Looks like torture.", I see comedic hyperbole. He doesn't think it's literally torture. He doesn't expect the Spanish Inquisition. He's just saying it doesn't look like fun to him - and

for 8 pages.

That’s the way you read it. It’s fine if Deason doesn’t think he’ll like touring. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Those of us how do tour know why and know why we don’t see it as torture. My advice in post 3 still stands: If you don’t like touring and don’t really want to do it, take a car.

Given that in his second post on the thread, the OP says "To each their own", I'm pretty sure my reading is the right one. If, OTOH, he'd said, "Are you nuts? This is a stupid endeavor that nobody could possibly enjoy!", you all might have had a point.

BTW, there's also the gratuitous insult you fling back - "If you don’t like touring and don’t really want to do it, take a car", as if there's no middle ground between loaded bike touring and driving, clearly denigrating anyone who doesn't choose YOUR preference. We're all individuals

and we like different things.

Well .... Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Right now, with my gammy leg, I'm only good for The Comfy Chair.

Now this, in context, is amusing.

Lots of fun. And the only way I could beat her up climbs was to make her haul a bunch of stuff. :D

I gotta say, though, the use of a period instead of an exclamation point suggests ambivalence...

KIDDING! I WAS KIDDING!!!

It’s obvious you weren’t kidding, troll!

So what? The OP’s initial opinion is also not interesting or useful to anybody. He was suggesting people were “nuts”. When he saw that wasn’t going to fly, he back pedaled.

No one has “lost their minds”. Well, no more than you have defending a useless opinion from someone who really should be less trollish.

"He's just a troll! Ignore him!!" shout people who can't stop responding.

Hey, the dash and the exclamation point were my late Mom's favorite punctuation! Personally, I prefer to overuse the ellipsis....

To the original poster ,I’d say pack light but prioritise your cycling kit as that’s what you are doing for most of the day, unless you need your Armani suit for your hotels and restaurants some of your cycling kit can double up for civilian wear(I use my waterproof cycling jacket as my civvie outer layer)I have a go to bunch of very light packable civilian clothing and footwear I also enjoy wearing ,only one of you need carry tool kit /pump etc ,use large water bottles as it’s surprising how much time you spend just stopping to fill up bottles, whilst I love real maps over electronics and my ortlieb bar bag has a map holder, with its klikfix release system it’s also perfect to keep all valuables/sunglasses/phones/ cameras/ kit I’ve peeled off in also I can take bag off at food stops, that too could be used for both of you ,it also doubles up as a mobile snack holder though you can get trigeek toptube ‘bento boxes’ for your jelly babies etc .The super large seatpacks with their internal stiffening hold a surprisingly large amount of gear ,post photos of both bikes if you get stuck so folk can suggest luggage solutions ,most barbag solutions don’t interfere with hand positioning or usage of brifters etc .Enjoy the experience

The semi-colon is the most underused and under-appreciated punctuation mark; I’m willing to die on this hill.

In my case, difficult races/events only seem fun when I first sign up, months in advance of said event. They definitely aren't fun during the event, but luckily I'm stubborn and have a short memory.

Yep, never been able to get confident with that one. :o

Maybe give this a read.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fdcafa51f.jpeg

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife annual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.

You really should learn. Improper punctuation can kill you.

Big fan of the Oxford Comma, myself, though of course, this isn't an instance for it.
