Lycra seat covers

AeroTech lycra seat covers have gone up to $25. My last one cost $5. Anyone know of a similar product? Looking for UNPADDED, tightish cover for hybrid seat.

Bikes: 06 Lemond Reno, 98 GT Timberline

Googled a couple--didn't go thru all the results, but: Lycra Seat Cover - Black (No Gel) and Sunlite Seat Cover (Cruiser) - Velocity Bike Shop | Lubbock, TX Both appear they may be the same cover.

Notice how the AeroTech cover fits tightly with no wrinkles. Those covers used to be very easy to find years ago. I've hunted all over online and can't find a similar product. Why these covers are useful: they cover the ergonomic holes in the seat that are supposed to relief pressure (which they do) but that also tend to, um, nip you in the wrong place.

Bikes: Foundry Chilkoot Ti W/Ultegra Di2, Salsa Timberjack Ti, Cinelli Mash Work RandoCross Fun Time Machine, 1x9 XT Parts Hybrid, Co-Motion Cascadia, Specialized Langster, Phil Wood Apple VeloXS Frame (w/DA 7400), R+M Supercharger2 Rohloff, Habanero Ti 26

Just get a saddle that works well for your rear end. A good saddle does not need a cover or anything padded or unpadded unless you want a cover to protect against rain then go for it. If you don't like a saddle with pressure relief cut outs don't get one simple easy peasy solution. I have not had the issue in which you speak and my saddles have cut outs but if you don't like it loads of saddles with out them or with different ones that aren't holed but just relieved.

I wouldn't change it for other cases.

I do like the pressure-relief cutouts and find them necessary. I've had a number of decent ergonomic saddles, but they've all had some problem or other, sometimes correctable. It seems easier to put a cover on the saddle to cure this one small problem than to go on yet another hunt for a decent saddle. Fortunately, today I finally found my two AeroTech seat covers after days of searching. I was chagrined to think I had lost fifty dollars of seat covers and again shocked at the price of this tiny little item. It's like one square foot of spandex and a foot of elastic. Next time I'll make my own.

Aardvark Cycling Accessories makes a good saddle cover in 'road' and 'mountain bike' sizes, but they don't sell direct.

My sister makes lycra saddle covers in sizes from kids' seats to big cruiser saddles. She makes them in black and in colored prints from whatever I can find at the local fabric store.

Here are some examples:

My experience has been it's a good idea to use something more than the elastic edge to hold it on a saddle, as rider movement can sometimes accidentally pull it off. I'll run a small wire laced through the underside of the material around the edges, which if done right will hold it on permanently if needed.

Even I don't know how my sister makes them. Her involvement in this business happened because she is a rather accomplished seamstress with an industrial sewing machine who has made many unique items through the years. Working successfully with stretch fabrics requires some skill, and she's good at it. Since I knew of her abilities, I showed her an old lycra saddle cover and asked her if she could make them in several different sizes. I sent her sample saddles in each size to use as templates and she's done the rest. She's not a rider, so there have on occasion been some small misunderstandings such as the batch that fit road saddles perfectly but also smoothly covered the clamping rails - a bit of snipping and some securing wire makes those work. Most of these covers are to resurrect otherwise good saddles that have torn or damaged OEM covers for nonprofit bicycle rehabilitation programs such as Free Bikes 4 Kids or Recycle Your Bicycle. But I have them on almost all my bikes, and so do some of my riding friends. They've held up great.

If you need a cover and can't source it anywhere else, let me know (Mods: lemme know if this offer isn't OK).
