Solar messenger bags
I don't know how the bag handles/feels, but I think the idea is great- Charge up your small electronic devices such as cell phone, MP3, camara, etc. while riding around.

- good idea for sunny climes!
- i use solar every day to power an AM/FM radio (no batteries or A/C involved!)
- here's an inexpensive panel for small gadgets:
US$10 solar charger
(the units i have cost the same, but power 3-12V and also recharge (2)AAs at the same time! (about 75mW each, but can be cascaded to provide greater wattage)

I've seen solar backpacks before and yes, they are pricey, $300 and up..
There is a thread on solar backpacks in the "commuting" forum here, just a heads up..

Yeah, I'm not about to spend $350 on a bag.
I gotta disagree about the coolness factor, though. Maybe I'm just getting old, but to me conservation is always cool.

https://www.pacdesigns.com/ $350 is worth it if you get a bag that, for most people, will last a REALLY long time. and you get some custom options. i don't think the solar bag is either of those.
i think someone made the same arguement about custom frames (why spend so much when you can get almost the same thing cheaper). yeah, it's expensive, but you get what you pay for.
but in the end, i sure wouldn't pay 350 just because the bag has a solar panel on it. i have a feeling it wouldn't last as long as even a cheap messenger bag.

i also think conservation is always cool and i wish more people would realize that... but having in mind the annual amount of sunshine we get around here, i'm not sure how effective these bags would be
