My bike club has a "Saturday Breakfast Ride" every weekend, and only canceals when there is a holiday... Snow or Rain we still ride.. We ride 20 miles out to the breakfast place and then 20 back.. Come join us in Cincinnati..

There's a ride here in Houston that does either Saturday or Sunday morning rides. They usually end up at La Madeleine in Rice Village. My buddy and I used to do Saturday morning rides, but we usually just ride in the evenings through doiwntown.

I often meet my non-riding wife at a coffee shop or restaurant after a Saturday morning ride.

I'm another middle-aged relic that appreciates the breakfast ride. Glad to know there are still a few of us dinosaurs around. I once lived in a place where we had three or four breakfast joints we would rotate visiting.

Around here, a Saturday morning breakfast ride means chomping down an energy bar while doing 20mph. Much of the social nature of Saturday rides has given way to something based more on competition. I think it's sad. The fun of bike rides is gradually being replaced with something which more closely resembles work, which I believe is turning some people away from cycling. I showed up on my mulelike touring bike once for what was billed as a "slow social" ride, only to find myself surrounded by a pack of lycra clad cheetahs. It does hearten me to see that some of the posters here still have something similar to the true breakfast ride. Perhaps there will be a resurgence in this most social and enjoyable of bike rides.

We live in the age of "extreme". Everyone seems to be either a Lance Armstrong or some tattooed and pierced downhill daredevil. Not that there's anything wrong with this but there's something to be said for the ride, the scenery, the people you're riding with, and destination activity be it breakfast, a picnic, a flea market...something other than the parking lot where every one met up.
