Bikeforums member of the year announced!
Ok spankys, here it is. We've been voting on this for two weeks, and now the time has come. The minor categories ended up as follows:
*Funniest Member - A. Troll won this easily.
*Crankiest Member - D*Alex just edged out Pokey.
*Best Advice - RainmanP was too good here.
*Best Avatar - RegularGuy took this one comfortably.
*Most Determined Cyclist - Chris L strolled away with the award nobody cared about.
And finally....
The bikeforums member of the year, who will of course, be off on a no expenses paid holiday in Murwillumbah (capital of the universe, future olympic site and place where Lance Armstrong himself would have been born if he'd had the chance) is....
Joe Gardner

RegularGuy steps to the microphone, motions for the crowd to be seated, waits a moment for quiet, clears his throat and says:
"First, let me congratulate D*Alex, RainmanP, A.Troll and ChrisL on their richly deserved awards. Your contributions to the sport of cycling and to BikeForums are worthy of the highest commendation. And especially Joe Gardner without whom the forums would not even exist. My hat is off to you all. (Please see the attached picture).
"I would like to thank Rotifer, 1OldRoadie, Allister and ChrisL, my esteemed opponents in the Best Avatar competition. I thank you for a race well run. Each of you has my deep respect and high regard. Each of you deserves recognition.
"And of course, I wish to thank my friends and constituents who did me the great honor of nominating and voting for my avatar. I am humbled by your generosity toward me. You make it that much harder for me to do what I now feel I must.
"It is with a sincere sense of regret that I decline to accept this prestigious award. I feel, however, that accepting it would be a grave injustice to that member of BikeForums who most truly deserves the honorific of 'Best Avatar.' Though she was not even nominated, her hand drawn avatars are true works of art and make my avatar look like the pathetic electronic doodle it is. I speak of course of Inkwolf. Thank you."

Hold it! I just realised that we are congratulating D*Alex for being grumpy?!? That doesn't sound praise-worthy

HOLD IT EVERYONE, I'M WIRED WITH C4 EXPLOSIVES! I deserve at least SOME recognition for being the strangest Bikeforums member! DONT I?!

(by the way, Pete Clark grabbed the microphone, not "mike," from Regular Guy. Let's get that part straight.)

I'm amazed that Joe hasn't been along to claim his Mur'bah trip yet. Who could possibly pass up that sort of opportunity.

The votes were in the Games forum and were open for two weeks. I decided on the categories, then took nominations from forum members for about two weeks before that. I also left it open for a couple of new categories to be added, but nobody suggested any.

Well, since I've been nominated, I'd like to propose 2 more awards:
1) biggest crank: For the member who bull-headedly posts an unwaivering viewpoint against all opposition or reason (Vlad would be in the running for this award, but several others come to mind)...
2) biggest gun nut: this would be awarded to the member that proposes the most ridiculous use of lethal firepower on a bike.

Excuse my ignorance (I'm from Kentucky), but what is an avatar? Is this similar to the word aviator? The only thing I can think of is an avatar is a cyclist who goes down a steep road at 45 mph, misses a turn, clears the guard rail by 6 feet, and launches into space. Is my guess correct?
