Silly question. However

why do the call the object you sit on a saddle and not a seat. Yet call the post which holds it a seat post and not a saddle post. Just curious. And bored.

I think they are called saddles because when bikes first came out the people that made the 'seats' were the same people that made the 'seats' for horses. Seat post is easier to say, one less syllable.

It still begs the question as to why the post is called the seat post. Even if the seat can be legitimately called a saddle. Oh well. Just things that we can't explain I guess.
