It's a GREAT time to be a cyclist...
I've never seen more people out riding bikes than I have this summer. People of all ages, too. Lots of young kids, families riding together, hobbyists and experienced commuters. I really feel like there will only be more bikes out on the rode as gas prices continue to climb. The thought of that change really excites me. I hope we can get more bikes and buses out there.
Louisville is rapidly becoming more bike-friendly as well. Several miles of bike lanes have gone up around our downtown area giving us a well defined portion of the road to ride upon. In addition, there are many miles of bike paths and park systems to explore with more being planned.
I don't know how active the bike community is where you live but I'm very happy to see it thriving here.

That's good to hear
Cycling is pretty popular around here. There are bike lanes or designated bike routes everywhere, a few nice bike paths, and traffic is fairly well behaved around bikes. There are more plans to make a direct connection from the coast to the inland areas via a bike path, it'll help cyclists avoid heavy traffic along a really busy street. There are also plans to expand the trails in the Otay Valley Regional Park and make them accessible to horseback riders, mountain bikers
, joggers, etc.

Now, if the local bike clubs would just pay more attention to their fellow cagers and not ride 3 to 7 abreast on the roadways ... like they do in Louisivlle and Southern Indiana ... that would be even better.
The local media in the Louisville Metro area has covered this for a few months now. The club in S. IN just across the river from Lou. is also somewhat guilty of this too. Just can't get some folks to realize that we "share" the road ... whether we are driving or riding.

They just opened a North-South dedicated paved bike trail in my town. We've always had East-West trails, but this is a nice alternative to some roads that aren't the best.
Also, a few weeks ago, I rode from far North Denver to extreme Southwest Denver, and never left the bike trail, except to get a bite to eat and drink.

About 10 years ago, an old muudy path that ran from our Town to the coast was upgraded to a better surface for Walkers- cyclists and Horse riders. In that 10 years the local community has progressively used that path more and more. Only problem is that it gets crowded with family groups or large groups of Walkers on it, that do not realise that other people want to use the path.
I use the path to get down to some of my rides but after 11am it is dangerous trying to dodge the free running dogs, the free running kids and the the family groups that are obliveous to all other users. Then there are the groups of cyclists that do not care about the dogs, kids or family groups so they are obliveous to all other users aswell.
What I have noticed though is that the numbers of Serious riders has gone up. Where as I used to be on the hills, in the middle of nowhere and only see the occasional rider-I now see several groups on a mornings ride and a heck of a lot of single riders. All we have to find out is if they will still be there in the middle of the winter.

IT's amazing that even with the crazy hot Miami heat we are experiencing I see more cyclists out there than I did this time last year. I guess when you really want to ride not much can stop you.

I see more riders this year then the last few years. I ride just to the outside of west plattsburgh, N.Y. The city decided to take 2 miles of bike lanes out for more parking WTF
It doesn't effect me but dam how stupid can they be.
