For hand numbness, also try to keep your wrists STRAIGHT on the bars. It helps to keep you from pinching the nerves in your wrists - that's what causes most of the numbness.

Thanks for the tip slotibartfast. I'm still experimenting with different adjustments of seat and handlebars and will also try keeping wrists straight. I think I enjoy tweaking things on the bike almost (but not quite!) as much as riding.

p.s. - now if I can just get my doggone read derailer and indexed shifter adjusted properly! :-)

I had a Trek 7700 rode for a while, kept in my mind wanting a
road bike, about 2 month age I purchased a Trek 2300, it is a fine bike, handles well ride good, but to my surprise over the same course my average speed did not increase even 1 mile per hour I ride what is called a lake loop miles 31.4 miles a time or two each week several other courses I have ridden a long time, keep a log with the miles, average miles per hour, time, the time has only dropped 1 to 3 minutes, but I am not dissapointed with the 2300 it is a joy to ride, but sometimes I think would have been better off to have kept the $1400. add'l in the bank.

Hi spier2,
Thanks for the info. It's interesting - I have been eyeing up the Trek 2300 as well. So your info is quite good and addresses my original question. At this point I think what I need to do is stick with the 7500 for a while and just keep trying to push my limits. At some time I may wish to get a pure road bike and I'm glad to hear good things about the 2300.
